Ridiculous it may be, but the scale in Mayday is hexes of 1 ls, with lasers suffering a penalty of -1 per hex of range. The conversion for HG say use the ranges I quoted but the HG combat tables, so no -1 modifier per hex.

Using the scale from Book 2 is a bit better since the HG equivalent of short range (i.e. no penalties to laser fire) is within 250000km, or 0.83 ls.

In MT the ranges are different. Planetary (50000km or 1/6th of a ls) becomes the equivalent of HG short range, which is a bit better.

This link refers to a new type of meson particle just announced called a "heavy-light" meson. It decays at a rate 6x slower than expected, and usually decays into a form that is not the expected result.
