Marc's confirmation email

So, 5 weeks ago I mapped out the process for shipping something this complex. The new COTI members we're very frustrated.

...in which you predicted "Well, if it takes 10-15 minutes to box a single kickstarter entry and there are 2085 supporters. We are looking at a 3 week process if 2 people are working long hours doing it."

Which goes to show that these predictions don't really tell us anything, and we should only go off what Marc tells us. Which was that he was hoping to be finished tomorrow. Obviously not gonna happen.

Lack of information and managing expectations can only come from the source.

Please recall two things:

1) Marc said that HE would try to be done by tomorrow. This in no way implies that the materials will be in your hands by tomorrow.

2) Marc said that he is often overly optimistic. This also in no way implies that you will have the materials by tomorrow. This implies something more towards the original projections. It says that he is not able to dedicate long hours every day to roll the information out, despite best intent. In fact, a more realistic projection would show no more than 50 at most are going out every day, probably more like 20. Some of our orders are very, very complex and have to be done by hand. Marc isn't Amazon.com, he doesn't have an automated pick and pack system, he doesn't have a huge warehouse to lay everything out in, he doesn't have an automated mailing system. Everything is boxed by hand (at least until he gets to the orders that are just cd's), verified by hand, weighed by hand, entered into a mailing label system by hand, picked up/delivered to the post by hand. When you try to do the same things, you can see how time slips away despite best intentions.

While I would prefer this thread get away from complaints and back to its original intent, Aramis please lock this thread if the complaints continue. We have had the thread hijacked to the point of uselessness by then.

Please recall two things...

You must have missed where I quoted Marc in full in my previous post. I am not complaining about Marc or comparing him to Amazon, though thanks for trying to put words into my mouth while ignoring what I actually did say, and the single obvious point I was making: stop speculating, only Marc can tell us when he is shipping.

It would seriously help if some of you considered that you don't have to defend Marc when he is not being attacked, and that you don't have to in turn attack KS backers who are obviously confused based on what we were told.

But you assume that I am not a kickstarter. I am one, and I haven't gotten my stuff yet either. Nor am I complaining. I understand the magnitude of the problem at hand. Do you?

I could not agree more...back seat drivers don't get far. Pointing out a very best case scenario was my effort to weigh optimism with reality. Clearly a few Backers thought an army was helping Marc & his wife.

I'm patient. It'll show up. In the meantime I'd rather follow the successes vs impatient.

I am disappointed the thread has turned down this path, which is a far removed from my original intent as can be.

We are all keen, all excited and some of us are quite impatient.

Let's all take a comfy seat and enjoy the anticipation :)

I'm keenly waiting for three copies down here in Melbourne, Australia. No confirmation email that I'm aware of, but no rush. Just hope the postie doesn't leave this on the step like my order of t-shirts today. I'm sure whoever looked through them was disappointed it wasn't something more exciting.

$150 level here, already got the replacement beta CD, and just now got my confirmation e-mail for the Kickstarter bundle. (Came as a Paypal notification, which almost saw it deleted - I pretty near never use Paypal, mainly because I don't like their customer service.)

Well, I backed both the T5 beta CD-rom and the book at the $150 level & I haven't received anything in the way of notifications.

Hopefully, I'll see something by the end of the month.

Since misery loves company - I'll chime in that I too am at the $150 level - I did get a payment confirmation (April 4) but I suspect I sent my response in after a big wave the previous day. So I'm waiting like many others here. I can only imagine the effort it takes to ship that many packages. So I remain patient. :-)

Patience has been the watchword for several Kickstarters I'm in by the way - Catalyst's The Duke closed about the same time as T5 - and that probably won't ship until May or June if we are lucky.

Castle Story, a computer game, closed in August with an October delivery estimate. I pledged for the beta. They are still on the prototype and after massive delays have allowed us beta pledgers access to the prototype. At $15 I don't have a lot of skin in this game.

Impact Games d14 and d18 dice - closed in August for a March delivery - should be shipping very soon actually.

I just keep telling myself that Kickstarter is not a pre-order system (although it really feels like it sometimes) - it's a system to back a project to make it possible or speed up its production.

And it's fun to have somthing to look forward to in the mailbox besides bills.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to hit refresh on my email account a few dozen times. :-)

Right you are! Almost brings back the anticipation of Christmas morning again, when Sanity Claus wasn't an imaginary friend.

Kickstarter Update #47 out, very detailed about what he is doing. Bottom line is he has to be done by May 12, if that helps. ;)

Got my $150 email today, so that seems promising. :)

Got an email yesterday saying that my Paypal label had been cancelled, or some such. Now I think I know why.

I just read the Kickstarter update.
Marc is doing an incredible job and must be really looking forward to a much deserved break in May.
I didn't back this project on KS unfortunately but a couple of weeks ago I ordered just the book from his website.
I wonder if my book, along with other non-KS web orders will be shipped after Marc's vacation in May?
I'm just curious really. I don't care when it arrives because I know that it will be worth the wait.
