Major question regarding the ACR in CT and T20

The T20 rules state that an ACR requires Battledress to be used. That is the weapon is built into the suit or some such. But there is absolutely no mention of this in Mercenary.

In our old Traveller group we imagined an ACR to be something like the pulse rifle from "Aliens", but T20 rules would suggest otherwise.

What happened?

I ask this because I wanted to take an ACR into the current D&D campaign, and have some serious questions about the viability of ACR operations.

An ACR is just a modernised assault rifle. Very much like a pulse rifle from Aliens.

(That's how the AD&D module of The Keep describes a submachine gun in AD&D terms....)
