If its does go T's up and CotI expires, on Sunday people will be forced with that very choice - google would answer that for them, errr.... the reason I say that is due to the board rules under the FAQ's.

What I may be able to do without breaking the rules is to "sticky" the topic.

I would expect that CotI members are smart enough to figure out where to go on their own. Remember though that not all boards are going to be like this one, you can't just swamp other boards and expect them to change to accomodate everyone.

The obvious place to go is the Mongoose Traveller board ( http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=89 ) , or there's the Avenger ones ( http://www.traveller.comstar-games.com/index.php ), or there's the SJG forums ( http://forums.sjgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 ), or the Children of Earth ( http://www.the-children-of-earth.org/forums/Blah/Blah.cgi - this one has the advantage of being privately owned and not affiliated with any publisher).

There's also the TML and a few other mailing lists out there.

The alternative is that someone sets up a new Traveller board on a new server that is independent of any publisher. Which may be a better idea to be honest.

That's why I said "regroup." Ideally, if push came to shove, we could do some kind of fund drive to reinstate CotI if it did go down. Assuming that's technically possible.

I was just about to say that there are also other Traveller sites around like the ones Odegra has mentioned above me.

I dont want to be seen as baised here.

If it became a realistic option that an independent forum would be a viable option then I would consider helping out in some way.

No fund drives please. Seriously its hunter's responsibility to keep Coti going not the fans responsibility. All that paying would do is bail hunter out of that responsibility and maintain the illusion that QLI is still being actively maintained because by renewing the domain you are also renewing QLI's web presence.

I think everyone else has done enough to try to keep this place going. Valiant effort and all that, but I think its time to let go because Hunter doesn't seem to be able or willing to make the effort to do it himself. And as i said its really not our place to do that for him.

I do agree with you on this, if Hunter cant do this then well CotI should expire.

A non publishers forum for Traveller that doesnt have the issues of ownership and links to products could work.

D'uh. Obviously not. And I don't know if you noticed or not but there is a linked connection to each newly posted topic on the GT board.

I mention it because while pointing out other sites is not a problem actively recruiting to them is, and that's what happened the last time there were cries of the sky is falling here. It's a fine line, try not to cross it, is what I (and I think Roger) am saying.

Could someone with knowledge email me what the monthly cost would be to keep COI active? I never thought about it before, but I guess that COI's hosting costs could be significant.

From a non-tech person: Apparently the CotI domain expires in mid-July, unless it's renewed. Also apparently, rpgrealms, of which the entire QLI site is apparently a subdivision, expires this coming Sunday. Apparently.

Maybe more knowledgeable people can set this straight.
