I'm busy working out a way of quickly building ships from FF&S1 and tinkering with the fuel requirements for jumps. After looking through this forum and a lot of mailing list archives decided to try a final modifier to the standard formula, of
10/Tech Level
for a final formula of
Drive volume * 5 / Max Jump Range * (10/Tech Level)
This gives the following mods by Tech Level
TL Modifier
10 1
11 0.91
12 0.83
13 0.77
14 0.71
15 0.67
16 0.63
17 0.59
18 0.56
19 0.53
20 0.50
Until you get to TL20 no ship modifed using these rules can carry enough fuel to effectively double jump with published designs - you can achived a second smaller jump with onboard fuel after TL15 and J2
