Is it another Milieu?

Really I use carousing combined with liaison or streetwise if it comes down to it.

I've seen it as "knowing how to make a deal in a sleazy bar in a sleazy startown to transport two droids, an old man, and a farmboy off an armpit desert world while avoiding Imperial entanglements".

As a referee, I see one's carousing style being affected by one's SOC... I guess Aramis' note makes me think age or experience also has something to do with it.

What are you implying about Aramis' age, robject?

I take Carousing to be the ability to show someone a good time - where to go, what shows to see, where to find the great dance clubs, which bars don't cut their booze, etc. I surmise this because of the Steward=Carousing-1 bit in MT (thanks WJP!) and CT (thanks again!).

Therefore, it is a good way to get information, as you wine and dine your subject and get them to relax and talk.

I always thought of Carousing as the ability to mingle at parties. Some people are wall-flowers (me :( ) who go to a party and just don't seem to be able to start up a conversation with a complete stranger. Others are never without a group of people around and seem to be able to talk to anyone (my wife  ).

It is a SKILL to be able to talk to anyone in a social situation. Carousing represents that social skill. Flattery and flirting may be part of that skill, but only part. I always thought of Carousing as a "life of the party" rating.

Carousing: The skill of finding out what people like to do, helping them do it, and blackmailing them the next morning for it. ;)

Seriuosly, I see carousing as the "life of the party" / able to strike up a conversation with anyone skill as well. Teamed with Admin, for example, it is great for that business dinner/golf outing. Teamed with streetwise, its a way to become a a "friend of mine" if youz 'nows what I mean. Teamed with recruiting, a powerful combination. Teamed with interrogation, gave us the old phrase "loose lips sink ships."

Blarney

Player Jon: "Nathler walks up to the service desk to inquire about his 600-ton liner."

Referee Rob: "The service clerk is a 3' tall green humanoid with pointy ears. He glares at Nathler, practically seething with grumpiness: 'Sher an begorrah! We canna ken ever-blessed ship problem tha' comes 'cross our yards! Ye'll havta weet ye'r turn, mister fleet Cap'n!'"

Player Jon: "Oh no, not another leprechaun! Nathler switches to Blarney Mode..."

Stupefy

Referee Rob: "A huge thug blocks your way, grunting out something that sounds like 'Let's see what you've got in yer purse, there, missy!'"

Player Val: "Kira casts her Stupefy spell on him." (roll roll)

Referee Rob: "The thug stops in mid-grunt, and his arms drop listlessly to his side as his eyes cloud over. He's completely non-responsive."

Someone take Kurega out for reeducation. (Guys in white coats & turbans are called...)

We need at least three modes
Intimidation (it's an art, and isn't always physical)
Persuasion (using rational processes to make a permanent change)
Bribery (using rewards to alter behavior or acquire info)

and a least three circumstances
Gathering info
Personal contact (FTF or 2-way transmission)
Impersonal contact (written/recorded)

^Nooooo! Youll never break me! Never . . .

ZAP!

Good day fellow citizens. I am now a happy, agreeable and well adjusted individual.
Be well.
