Imperial Marine Colors

Now that I've ID'd my Martian Metal miniatures I have to paint them. So is there any "canonical" camouflage/color scheme for Imperial Marines? Or can I paint them pink with sparkly green polka-dots and yellow "have a nice day" happy faces?

Camouflage schemes would be tailored for specific environments. You don't want Vegan snow cow white when your trying to hide on the lava plains of Lucifer IV.

The Canonical Parade uniform color for the Marines is maroon. Hmm the Marines color is maroon. I'll bet their favorite pasta is macaroni, theeir favorite cookie is the macaroon, and of course they probably all dance the macarena.

Maroon it is, then. Thanks for the info.

I've always been kind of curious about this...what do you guys think would be a good starship/space station boarding action camouflage color? That snow/"urban" camo pattern probably wouldn't work because that kind of assumes concrete rubble. Forest and desert wouldn't work. I'm guessing basic SWAT black/blue would be the most effective.

How about a painted full body nude?

But seriously, I wonder if the old dazzle stripes would work at close range? I assume the mil and swat have tried it, but since we don't see it used I guess it has limited effect or maybe it makes it too hard to "see" your own team, like why they all wear the "big letters" jackets, ATF, DEA, etc, (now that would be a good one ETC

) on raids.

Another good one might be bright full spectrum light, I don't recall the military term for it off hand, but its quite effective at long range (in daylight naturally, and assuming no high tech "spotting" means).

As far as all that goes I often wonder how important visual camouflage would be in a high tech operation. I can see full spectrum processing (visual, ir, electromagnetic from brainwaves and gear) coupled with audio doppler and maybe even chemical sniffers all computer enhanced and correlated to not only tell you where to shoot, but when, what and how much (and even what the guy had for a last meal). Certainly not every soldier is gonna have that.

Anyway this is starting to ramble so I'll drop it now.

Starship/Boarding action camo: How about just full-body dull, matte gray (or is it *grey*, I never remember).

IIRC, Imperial Marine battledress has a "chameleon system" that enables color and camo schemes to be changed with just a push of a button (so to speak).

Depends on which version on English you speak, so, just like the name of this game and the number of "L"s, either way works...

I painted my lead miniature marine figs with just a black wash over the base metal for an oily steel sort of look - brings out the detail and looks very nice in a grimy sort of way, what you'd expect after a hard-fought boarding action. Highlighted equipment with either matt black or red for LEDs, optics etc.

Yeah, I ended up going with a maroon base coat, brown ink/wash, and "bronze" highlights. Metallic green faceplates. If I get really sadistic I'll try painting the imperial eclipse on their shoulders, but I'll need a toothpick and a magnifying glass for that =P

Thanks for the help, guys.

Your welcome.

Is there any posibility of seeing some pics. Your paint scheme sounds way cool.

Yeah, thanks for the interest, actually.

I can get pretty good images from my wife's scanner, but that's attached to her Macintosh, and I can't figure out how to get the images from there to my PC. When I find a free Mac ftp program I'll post some images.

Depending on what OS you're running on your PC, it may well be easiest to set up an ftp server on your PC and then ftp into with Fetch.

If you're on a *nix it's a matter of turning it on: start with "man ftp" and look for the "see also" at the bottom for hints.

If you're on Win32, there are several free/share ware servers on http://www.download.com.

I have used servers on the Mac side, but I only recommend that to masochists... ;> (and I _like_ MacOS!) The exception of course would be if you have OS X on the Mac, it which case it's a real BSD and all you have to do is start the service.

HTH,

I have the 25mm Grenadier marine boxed set for Traveller...for those I did them in a nonmetallic red/bronze look (no camo pattern) with a lighter drybrush so they look a bit sand-blown. Blue for the visors...turned out pretty well and overall they fit in most settings (except arctic of course)

As for the question of Mac to PC transfer I know HOW to do it but explaining it is a different matter

The easiest way would be after scanning convert them to .jpg to keep the size down and just email it to yourself. I do that all the time between the machines at work and home...never a problem.

Mac to PC ...if all else fails there is always sneakerlan.

A Mac can read or write to a PC floppy. So format your 1.33 MB floppies on the PC, fill them on the Mac and read them on the PC. For JPEGs, be sure you save them as "NAME.JPG" so the PC will recognize them as pictures.
Oh, your PC will also see a small "resource fork" for each picture. Ignore it.

Interesting......I Painted my set of 25mm "Grenideir" Marines in the traditional Maroon and Black. My 15mm "Martian Metals" Marines I painted olive drab and black.
