I just got T-5

People told me T-5 was train wreck and unplayable. After a brief reading I am finding this to be untrue. I like that it is more "tool box" and less "My way or the highway" sure the referee and players have to think a little more but that is not a bad thing.
I ordered one T-5 cd and one T-20 cd and got two T-5 cds but that is alright I will order two T-20 cds next month.

My feeling exactly oldgamergeek...

But that was a year ago*. It's a great game but unfinished IMHO. The errata is massive (typos, omissions, or rules contradictions, etc.) and the errata is unfinished still. The last update (to the errata) was a year ago, and there is no sign that Marc is working on it. *at all*

Now I'm just checking once a month to see if there is a definitive version. No luck so far.

I'm glad you're enjoying it :)

sorry about the double post. Due to a family emergency I am minus several hours on sleep. My Mom went into the hospital with pneumonia last night. I agree with all the things about errata but I know so many other games have that same problem it does not make it a deal breaker anymore.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. I wish her a quick recovery. And I'm glad you're enjoying T5.

The fans have done useful things to help with Traveller 5th-edition.

Hemdian has produced excellent videos on character creation and the combat sequence:

You will also find utilities online produced by Thalassogen, Eaglestone and others. I love the fact you can get the computer to generate entire sectors in the full-on Extended system stats of T5. I had to tweak the data file to add names for 600 mainworlds and make some modifications, though, but in case someone's spreadsheet-Fu is not so developed, I left an essay on Thalassogen's site explaining how.

My nearly-finished sector resulting from this page is shown here. Oh, yes, the site can generate sector and subsector maps for you as a .pdf, based on generated or re-fed datafiles. To my shame, I actually haven't initiated a game in it yet. I will do so on Roll20.net. If people want help for the setup of a T5 game there, I seem to be the only one thinking about it at this time and I can offer suggestions and data.

Thalassogen links to Eaglestone's T5 utilities such as a Task Roller (I can't directly link to it but it is one of the tabs on the top of this page: )

Good job, folks. The SectorMaker and other things will of course be subject to any errata changes in the future, but for now with these tutorials and aids, it adds up to a playable game.

We do not need to do this, but I want to talk about interoperability at the sector-data level. I'll start a thread on Software Solutions.

Hey, I agree with oldgamergeek! I think T5 is good. More concise books (a Players Guide, a GM's Guide, a Races Guide, etc.) would be great additions, though.

In support of OGG, here's a link to a thread that has a T5 character worksheet that I think is pretty useful, but then, I made it! ;)

The most recent version of the sheet is in the link in the #5 post. (edit: link fixed)

I'll second this. There's been progress but it takes time. Personally I wish they'd just canonize my house rules and move on from there. :D

What are you people saying exactly? Garanties that Marc is working on it? A year without communication or progress. You people know something we don't? Don said he'd ask Mark month ago how things stood and he hasn't reported any answer from Mark. And no one is closer to Mark than Don on this, so where are you guys coming from stating facts like this?

Don't tell me work has been done but no progress has been made in a year that warranted an update. At least communicate what you're working on. After all this time what we would be expecting is additional material (adventure modules, etc.) and a definitive errata. The playtest has been done already.

Don got an answer - but forgot to post it. Marc is working on Combat, and has been for a month+.

Patience is vital.

If you're waiting on "revised T5", expect a 2+ year wait.

Making the T5 books that we have... become worthless? Hmmm...
I firmly believe that history is the best predictor of the future.

I (like many people) purchased the Classic Traveller CD from Far Future Enterprises long before the current 'improved' version of the scanned files was available. When the new version came out, I (like many people) received an e-mail from Marc informing me that I could have a new Classic Traveller CD for the $5 cost of shipping, or for free if I requested it as part of another purchase from FFE. In no way, shape or form do I feel cheated by Marc or FFE for the purchase of the CT CD or the release of the re-scanned CT CD.

There are no guarantees in life, but I find that people generally tend to be who they are fairly consistently. I find no reason to suspect that Marc or FFE will suddenly change who they are ... so if and when a "T5 revision 1" is released, Marc and FFE will do right by its customers ... just as they always have.

YMMV (but I would be very surprised to hear that it does).
