hull points

Greetings, all.

How do you use hull damage points in your games? Being unable to find any mention of them in the RM Starship Combat section, I have tripled the UCP of any successful hit and applied the result to hull damage points, in addition to any other effects from the tables.

Thanks for your responses.

Officially, you don't.

They're there for use when firing upon it with ground troops, etc.

Semi-officially, go look at MT Player's Manual page 80... this gives the personal/vehicular combat stats for ship's weapons. Using those, you can use the vehicular combat rules instead of the ship combat rules, and use those instead.

Thank you, Aramis. In the couple of times ground troop vs. starship combat had occurred in a game where I was responsible, I just solved it by fiat.

There are obviously a bunch of ideas that didn't get fleshed out in the MT rulebooks.

Using the vehicle combat mechanics for ships is one of those; almost everything you need to do so is in the PM and RM; the Ref's companion fleshes them out a bit further with the large scale combat rules themselves, and by using those, you can make a very playable variant ruleset (and can just ignore the HG derived system pretty much entirely)...

DGP was designing a wargame that would use those stats. One of the many items that never made it to production.
