How good a reference is "Rim of Fire" for CT?

So I'm trying to scrounge up my old CT Alien Module 6, The Solomani to double check Terran background and Sol space, but I can't find it. I'm tempted to use GURPS "Rim of Fire", but would rather not.

Any thoughts?

DGP Aliens Vol.2: Solomani & Aslan is also an excellent source (if you have access to it).

MgT has also put out two supplements:
1) MgT Alien Module 5: Solomani (which includes the Alpha Crucis Sector)
2) MgT: Solomani Rim
As I recall, the GT: Rim of Fire supplement is put together well (as are most GURPS Sourcebooks).

The thing to remember is that all of these have different time-frames/settings:

The CT and MgT Books are all ca 1105 (Pre-Rebellion).
The DGP material is ca 1120 (Rebellion-Era)
The GT material is also ca 1120, but alternate non-Rebellion timeline

And, yes, there are events that occur between 1105 and 1120 that one needs to be aware of that are different/specific to that time period or timeline - e.g. in the GT non-Rebellion timeline Archduke Adair moves his governmental seat from Libert in Diaspora to Muan Gwi in the Vegan Autonomous District (Solomani Rim), and personally takes on the role of Sector Duke of the Solomani Rim (upsetting several local Dukes in the process). This is not the case either in the 1105 Pre-Rebellion or in the 1120 Rebellion-timeline.

I'm not as well versed in the Solomani Rim as I am in the Spimward Marches, so I can't make any definite statements, but I know Jon Zeigler made a big effort to take every bit of previously published material about the Rim into account. He elaborated a lot on the earlier material, which some people oddly enough consider a flaw, but as always you can simply ignore anything you don't like, so I don't see the problem there.

You do have to be concious of the additional 15 years and backdate anything that RoF says that is the result of events after 1105.

Aramis; I did not know that. I'll check it out.

whulorigan; yeah, it was the whole "Rebellion never happened" thing that had me wondering whether I should use it as a reference. The supp I'm writing really isn't time frame dependent (though I guess it could be), and the location is more rimward in Sol space, so it's out of the contentious regions, but my other big worry is that there may be other adjustments to the Solomani canon in the GURPS supp that's not in the non-GURPS timeline.

But thanks for the lowdown. It helps a great deal.

I do not believe there is any divergence between the CT/MT and GT material prior to the timeline "split" ca 1116 (or a little before).

If there are any, they're deliberate retcons and should be considered retcons for the OTU timeline also. (e.g. we got permission to change a few Sword World populations and these revised populations are now official for the OTU too).

But, as I said, I'm not aware of any such retcons in the Rim. The big changes between the two universes are all (AFAIK) 1116-1120.

Thanks. I was really curious if the Solis had a Scout Service equivalent. It appears that the navy and merchants probably fulfill that role.

I have NO interest in GURPS and haven't since my first taste of it.

That being said, I own nearly all the GURPS Traveller books because they are simply excellent for fluff and meat.

Rim of Fire is an excellent book!
