COMMENTS
The "Type-NS" Mining Rig in HG format. Deckplans might be done in the near future...

Neat idea but would it be more efficient to have the factory come to the belt with a J drive? Perhaps not.

What about removable jump drives that are shipped out after it is set up so the structure can be moved from system to system?

2-4601,

Excellent as usual! I recently read a Scientific American article that puts the mining back into the idea of belting.

A mining adventure/campaign looks verrrryyyy interesting!

KG,

Why not a jump 'tug' like the venerable SDB shuttle?

Installing, un-installing, and re-installing all those dTons of jump drives, along with the shipping angle, can't be that easy.

Have fun,
Bill

Thanks!
Sooner or later I'll get around to deckplan this rig

Bill, could you provide us with the citation to Sci American? I and others would like to read it also.

Thanks!

Bob

Interesting variation of the 5kton version from Belt Strike Employee 2-4601.

My Question: why does she have missiles & sandcasters? Makes her more a warship doesn't it?

Other than that, nice job again!

Keep in mind that its intended for frontier deployment; in the safe Core Systems far bigger rigs are employed. And, in the frontier, a 5,000-dton ship makes a big, fat target for pirates, privateers and claim-jumpers - so it needs a good way to keep them at bay. Sure, it won't stand against a serious military ship, even a Destroyer - but most pirates operate ships in the 200-600 dton range and will be seriously outgunned by the rig.
