Has Anyone tried to play STRIKER in 25mm?

I've got this problem;
You see I'd like to teach STRIKER to the group I play traveller with..But none of own any of the 15mm minis STRIKER was written for. and since we have plenty of 25mm figs, I'd like to play in 25mm. Has anyone had any experiance with scale conversions, that they would like to share?

Come on, folks, give the man what he wants! Us members of his group deserve it, and he does especially!

And if you don't I'll start singing!

Hmmmm...

I would think you have a couple of choices, based on similar scale-conversions in Command Decision. In those rules when moving from larger scales to smaller you could simply cut everything in half for ranges and speeds and blast radii, or you could switch from inches to centimeters. So in your case (smaller to larger) you could take the opposite tack; double all of the ranges, or say 1" equals 2 centimeters.

The limitations you would run into are all size-based; you will need a HUGE table for a decent-sized action. If you are expecting a good-sized action with any room for maneuver, you may be disappointed. On the aother hand, if you are trying to simulate something a little more static (an ambush or an assault on a fixed position) 25mm might be just fine.

Well AZsteven,

I had planned for squad level skirmishs. I've seen wargaming in 25mm and so knowing I'd have size limtations, Ithought it best to stay on the squad/platoon level. (I guess that by "Decent sized" you mean clashing Battalions) Thanks for your help...........

Exactly - 25mm for Squad-level or Platoon-level should be fine, especially if you are in close-in terrain like a city or dense woods. If you are in clear open terrain, you might find that even Platoon-level is going to be difficult unless you have a REALLY big table.

It is fun though - both the original Striker and Striker II are worth the effort (I think Striker II is actually better, but again I am a Command Decision player and they are similar).

Striker II is actuall designed for 25mm miniatures, and it uses the same ground scale as Striker.

I do recommend that you change the cm to inches if ou are going to use 25mm though.

If ou have a look at the Yahoo group "CT-Striker", there will be a pdf for the Striker III rules that give some possible scale conversions for using 25mm.

You WILL need a MUCH bigger playing area (The smallest area that we have successfully used with 25mm minis has been an 8 x 8 foot table. I would recommend a 10x10 if you can find one)

In StrikerIII I envisioned 25mm scale more for Squad to Platoon level play at the Skirmish level. It can be used for larger games, but would require a change in the manner in which fire teams are constructed. I have the basic 4 man fire team for the scale conversions I listed in StrikerIII, but you can scale down the dimensions of a Fire Team and use fewer figures to represent a fire team. Just make sure that if you do this that you use no fewer than 2 figs to represent a fire team ala Striker II..

Striker was written for 15mm, so I think you could just double everything and use up to 30mm figures. I experimented once (just once) with Games Workshop Eldar Guardians as Zhodani. I doubled the squad base size (25mm square changed to 50mm square), and fit 4 homemade Zhodani/Eldar on the base. I decided that it just didn't have the right feel for me, so I decided to stop the exercise. IMHO, 15mm just fits on a table better; the larger figures looked scrunged (sp) up on the stand.

Striker was written for 15mm, BUT Striker II was written for 25/28mm figures, and it uses the EXACT same ground scale as CT-Striker.

The Fire Team Stands in Striker II are slightly larger (1.5x1 inch) than CT-Striker, and they usually only mount 2 figures on a Fire Team stand regardless of how man soldiers are actually in the Fire Team... But (again) I have done some experimentation and on a 1.5x1.5 inch base you can easily get 4 25/28mm minis...

I gotta agree with Cpt. Bob, though. It doesn't exactly look right considering that Traveller just seems right in 15mm, and Striker tends to work better in 15mm or smaller scales (I tend to use 6mm predominantly for Striker as it is most cost effective. You can field a Battalion for what it costs for a squad of 25mm figures or a Platoon of 15mm)...

So what about models/minatures then? A typical Tank would be 6-8 inches long at 25mm, and about 3-4 for 15mm. I think it should have its own scale. it would be a step between someting like 40K and something like Epic 40k

What is the size of a Typical Game area for Striker?

I have been limited to 4x8 tables due to not yet having bought new materials to make a new modular table, BUT...

The absolute BEST games that I have played were on 12x12 or 14x14 tables... and 8x8 would be more than adequate...

Could I ask why you are so keen to play Striker in 28mm?

CT-Striker, as Lexx has pointed out, was written for 15mm (But I have discovered works best in 1:285/1:300 or 6mm scale) and works excellently at this scale. Striker II was written for 28mm miniatures, but it had different rules for basing the figures... Eventually, Striker III will have a 28mm Skirmish level that is being written for it (I have farmed that out to someone who si helping with Striker III)... That being said, you may try mounting your figures individually, and grouping them into Fire Teams/Squads, that have rules limiting the distances that the individuals may be from their team mates... The Command and Control rules would still work this way, and you would be best off doubling or tripling all ranges to make the ground scale closer to the mini's scale.

I've just started buying into WizKidz' Mechwarrior Age of Destruction miniatures. A lot of them seem ideal for use in Striker.

I pulled some of the infantry figures off the clicky bases and plan to use them for Striker 10mm. You just have to allow for the different number of figures per base, than the standard 4. I don't have a problem with that, since the figures look pretty nice just the way they are based.
