In a game I'm working on, a woman comes into the tavern from traffic control after a hectic day (Ships jumping out left and right due to a coming jump shadow) and asks for a "low berth".

The scene was just setup, and the ref to a "low berth" meant a mixed drink with little sugar or caffeine that was meant to help one relax after a tough day. (I'd assume it had some sort of chocolate syrup in it as many find chocolate relaxing. hmm, maybe it could be fermented chocolate. Is that possible? Chocolate has sugar, and damn near anything with sugar in it ferments. Now I'll have someone moaning at me for encouraging kids to drink. ;) )

So this made me think of other mixed drinks in the traveller universe. Someone out there want to come up with titles and descriptions for a variety of mixed drinks in the TU? I was thinking of one called a "defroster" which is a stimulating drink (Bookoo caffeine, nice dose of alcohol) for those who've just gotten off a ship after travelling in a low berth. It would likely be low cost to be affordable to those who travel in low berths.

How about one called a "misjump" because it's so potent (Think of a boilermaker on steroids) that if you drink it you may have no idea where you end up.

This could make a nice piece of background for traveller (Which is why I came up with the low berth in my game) so maybe people could do up a list of drinks in the traveller universe, along with (Heh heh) little known side effects of drinking them....

A drink called a "jump 7" should have alarm bells ringing in traveller player's heads, for example.

BTW, the pan galactic gargleblaster is just right out, OK?

Spinal Mount: Tequila, Caffeine and Viagra...

Middle Passage: Ok, enough of this already - self censored. :)

Auto-Evade: Try walking a straight line afterwards and you'll know how it gets its name.

Zero-G: You'll be on the ceiling after a couple of these.

I like it!

The Vargr: A hangover recuperation drink (a reference to drinking the hair of the dog that bit you.) *badum-ksh*:toast:

Actually, in the process of harvesting cocoa beans, the beans are fermented. Just like for coffee.

More drinks...

Just to follow along...

How about the old Vilani classic - a Jump Dimmer - a shot / drink like a carbomb or boilermaker, where a shot of some clear, light alcohol is dropped (glass and all) into a larger drink that rapidly turns black and opaque - drink quickly before it curdles / dissipates / foams over. And of course one of these could knock the faint of heart out for a week.

sorry but 'jump 7' sounds more like a spacer bar than a drink...thanx for the idea:rofl:

I like the 'low berth'.. looong cool drink, like a good long island icetea :D

there's always a 'Belter'...easy going in, that hits you deep inside .

Godiva makes a Chocolate Liqueur and a Russian restaurant that I know of that makes their own vodkas have a chocolate vodka.

However, the process of turning cacao beans into chocolate involves fermentation to start with.

The funny here is that some evasive patterns are called "the drunkard's walk" in military jargon and involve random variances on a more or less straight course.

not bad...

Like I said, it's amazing what you can find out on the net from a simple conversation.

Maybe we could have one called the "system purge" that was made of tequila, mexican water and prune juice...

I know some people are going to throw rocks at me for this, but how about a drink called "Secrets of the ancients" which has abig buildup and then turns out to be a big bore?

Maybe we could have one where you mic vilani beer with broccoli juice to make the vilani beer taste better....

One SPA lounge I know serves a number of unusual drinks; in fact the owner pays for new drink recipes. One of my favorites was the Saint Elvis.

Saint Elvis:

2 parts bourbon
1 part sipping whiskey
1 part infusion of Terran peanut butter
1 dash of liquid smoke

Gently mix the ingredients over a low heat. Remove from the heat when the mixture reaches a smoky brown color. Serve steaming in a steel goblet and garnish with crumbled bacon (or bacon analog as available).

Note: The certain ethnic Solomani are quite fond of this drink to commemorate the date of ancient feuds and battles. Aslan enjoy the velvety warmth of this drink. However, this drink is not recommended for consumption by members of the Vargr race. They enjoy the flavor and texture of the Saint Elvis but the peanut butter leaves them comically licking their chops. This has lead to more than one very costly bar fight.

I can't take credit for the name, I saw Deadlock use this one:

"Drop Trooper"
-A shot with enough punch to knock you out of orbit!

LOL

I was actually preparing to run a T20 game and one of the characters is a drunken scout. I figured coming up with drink names would be fun. Athus, Drop Trooper was created. If you're standing, you'll be instructed to sign a consent form that releases the establishment from all legal responsibilities if you do something stupid while drinking these and you were actually a Drop Trooper (or trained as one). This drink is not kind to anyone after the second or third one.

Here are a few more I came up with:
Archduke: very rich and expensive
Iridium Throne: a frozen Archduke
Spinward Marches: actually six drinks served in the order of the drinker's choosing
Sylean Rum
Signal GK
Spinward Main: series of twelve to sixteen shots, maybe more
Subsector Tea: served cold in a tall glass. Very pleasing
