GURPS Traveller "First In"

Personally I wasn't impressed. Not that it was bad, just that I had it all in other forms already. I bought it because I got a deal and I'd long been curious because it was so touted. I was led to believe it had so much more. If it did I didn't see it, but it did have some nice pictures.

So I turned around and sold it cheap (compared to what some were selling for, I got about what I paid for it iirc) in short order. I simply didn't need it and figured I'd give someone else a shot at it for a decent price.

Not much of a review I guess :)

I'm curious about "First In", as I've recently heard some good things about it on another forum.

Is it geared to be used only with the GURPS ruleset (of which I have positively no experience), or can I use it with little or no adaptation for Classic Traveller, the only edition of which I can profess any familiarity?

Well, what I recall of it was pretty much GT specific generation stuff (though some ideas could be borrowed as I recall) but the fluff of course was system-less and pretty good. If you have a full collection of CT I don't think First In will add anything to your game. But I don't really recall it too well.Maybe somebody else would be better for a more detailed answer :)

What far-trader said. I wouldn't tell you to run right out and get it unless you are a Traveller or a GURPS completest. I'd also recommend GURPS Space 4e over First In for overall usefulness in a scifi world-making book.

I have actually gotten a ton of use out of this book, even though I don't use GURPS. The world generation details created can be easily ported back into good old UWPs.

Maybe if I had the World Generators Handbook I'd feel differently, but since I don't, I found First In extremely helpful, and the results seemed much less wonky than anything I generated with the CT Scouts book.

Same for me - I really like the First In stellar data and system generation system. Nicely detailed and feels very natural. Also you have a kind of map of the system when you're done, which is great for flavor/fluff.

I've been using it for my Terran ATU, and have been getting very nice, believable systems based on real-life stars in the neighborhood.

hmmm... I never heard of this Gurps thing, but I have for the longest time been working on D&D adaptations of the standard cast... grace has been the hardest, only because I havent done the TF mechanics.
