in teh system table it lists options for a system to have binary, trinary or single stars. It then goes on to say "if a giant is present" But there is nothing that indicates how a hex is determined to ahve a giant star.

my book has an error but others don't seem to, the last line of the chart is missing. SO nevermind

I believe the first printing of the THB had that error. It appears to have been fixed in later editions
