Fungus/Fungi worlds

I seem to recall there being an indication that a possible world Travellers could come across would be one whose lifeforms were fungus of various sorts.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

The Suerrat survived by farming fungi in caves, that's the only mention of fungi I remember from traveller.

[Resisting temptation to make lame Yuggoth joke]

There was a world write-up in one of the Megatraveller Journals that dealt with a world with a very vigorous fungocology.

As my Trav Collection is half a world away :( that's all the info I can give.

The shaggies are a symbiosis of a fungus and humans.

That's them! The Shaggies.

Found on Enakka

Details in Megatraveller Journal 1.

IIRC they were remnants of a failed First Imperium colony.

Could not the Shriekers from the Denuli system be adapted?

A planet where the dominate form of life is fungoid is not terribly far off, unless you mean sentient life. A good part of early Earth history was dominated by lichen and fungi on the land whilst the seas where the incubator of other life processes.

The Forgotten Planet

By Murray Leinster

is an interesting story about a world dominated by Fungus and such in the lower level of atmosphere.
I don't know if this is something that you are looking for or not.

I don't recall any sentient fungi, just general plant grade fungus. But it sounded pretty interesting when I read it (I think it was an encounter on some animal encounter table). Not beint familiar with fungus (other than those that appear on the occasional pizza) I was wondering why kind of world this might be?

Piers Anthony had a trio of books on the subject of a Fungus world and a group of explorers in it: "Omnivore," "Orn," and "Ox." He wrote these early in his career, before he found his "book full of bad puns" market, and devolved. It's been years since I've read them, but I recall them being quite good, and rather Traveller-y.

Maybe I should convert the Myconid (from AD&D 1E MM2).

They are described as "resemble walking toadstools in humanoid form".

Average Int (~7-8 in Traveller), vary from 2'-12' tall.

They have virtually no tolerance for direct sunlight (but this can be dealt with).
