Fun World Names

Has anyone just come up with silly or fun names for the worlds they create?

I remember a while back someone posting about how fitting the world name Stilatio VII would be for an adult-themed resort world.

I always got a kick out of the name of the world in the Star Fleet Battles scenario 'the Monster that ate Sheboygan III'.

And there's always a spot for the Suerrat-run brewing world of Artesia IV, right?

What are the fun or silly names you've used In Your Traveller Universe? And why?

We've had many an encounter in the Beta Carotene system.

And in a separate game universe we had Stalag - a Nazi-Germany themed world with zeppelin- and u-boat-shaped warships which occupyed the neighboring world of Franconia and fighting a forever war in the cold vastness of the Jovian Front. Other systems in the universe were the resort/ entertainment world of Vegas, and the hot, humid, and old gentile and slightly risque world of Bayou.

Dream - where everything is possible for a price. The Underworld maintains an extensive network of the more seedy desires called Nightmare.

Aerth - essentially where Fantasy can be replicated with science.

Moons of Spoon - where there is a bar that stretches over 12 moons of an otherwise boring Gas Giant - hence somewhere it is always Happy Hour.

Shite or the more vulgar American version - a mining colony that is on a volcanic muddy world. So, if it is not the sulphur in the air, it is the ever present mud that gets into everything.

DefthStar - Imperial Navy base with a sense of humour. Think the Death Star Rap...

Lux famous for the multi-story brothel and its zombies out beyond the fringes of Imperial Space.

Wayout - research base on the fringes of a system investigating FTL Communications that open a portal to Otherspace.

Turtle VII - named after the main stellar body, so as you may guess there is Turtle II, Turtle III, Turtle IV, etc.

Bastard - lost fief claimed by a descendant of Martin III.

Chicago VII: GOV-0, LAW-0 ... a rather incendiary environment ...

I would make it a high law level - hand guns are banned in Chicago. (But then that brings up the point of how the law is enforced, if at all)

Also, there's a phrase in Chicago, 'a Police Officer is only guilty until his friends make the witness disappear.'

Lost-a world beyond the Imperial fringe.
BFE- a neighboring system to lost (only one jump away) when headed towards the Imperial fringe. (you go through BFE before getting to Lost)
Goram-home of the best grenade factory in known space. (quote from many a firefight, "Throw that Goram grenade!!!", short pause, *BOOM!!!!*)

Anime

A world full of fantastic geography and polymorphic creatures. Tech level varies from 0 to 15+. Government is undefined and benign, except when it isn't. Homeworld of the Besm.

Besm (Minor Human Race)

Minor human race, with legs and arms longer than normal, eyes larger than normal, mouths smaller than normal, and hair coloring of any imaginable shade and length. Known for superb martial artistry, mecha/techno aptitude, and the training of small creatures for combat. Prone to extreme emotionalism, brooding contemplation, and pretentious egotism.

May be recognized by their esoteric fashion sense (i.e., mini-skirted sailor suits, flowing robes, 'punk' styling, et cetera), and their inability to walk and talk at the same time.

So.... Darrians then? ;)

Nietquam, a hot, sweaty jungle moon controlled by balkanised governments, aligned into power blocs that hold radically opposed views. A number of the states are involved in open warfare, though complex treaties and the threat of massive offworld military intervention have so far prevented a disasterous world war. Instead, there are all manner of secretly sponsored insurgencies and guerilla uprisings. Certain areas experience almost constant combat, with outrages and atrocities committed by all sides in the name of their respective ideologies. The conflict is widely carried by the media, and domestic protests against the wars are widespread and often violent.

Allegory: An artist's paradise, where nothing is quite as it seems.

Metaphor: A purely representational democracy - everbody represents somebody else, but nobody ever represents themselves ("So wattsa metaphor you, eh?").

Rhetoric: After 300 years of debate, they're still trying to decide the form of their government, but they're having a great time, so why bother?

It wasn't Traveller, but I had a game with a planet named Sendak in it. Predictably it was home to a creature called the wild thing . . .

Stendec: A "Lost Colony", recently rediscovered. It originated when the 5,000 ton Lancastrian colony ship 'Stardust' misjumped into the system and found the world reasonably habitable. Unfortunately, a similar incident happened about a month earlier with the starliner 'Fairchilde', and the survivors of that crash had reverted to cannibalism to survive. The first meeting between the two groups was a very bloody affair.

Fogworld-Imported from storytelling between me and my father. Covered with mysterious substance called "fog" which isn't the same as the fog we have on Earth.

Oasis, Imperial capital of the Spinsouth Salient. No it is NOT on the atlas. It is to Gallactic South(routhly the direction toward which Terras south pole points), and was put there because I needed room to make new worlds. It is on a mostly desert world with one major starport. It was inspired by the second episode of the second season of Buck Rogers.
