For a wet vessel, displacement tonnage is important because it changes based on the load. For a vessel that isn't floating on a liquid the use of "displacement tons" is meaningless as there is nothing to displace. Second, the scale of the "hydrogen displacement ton" is not of a scale that is meaningful. That's why we use register tons for measuring useful cargo space.

What about etheric displacement, ships riding on the ether?

"Eddies," said Ford, "in the space-time continuum."
"Ah," nodded Arthur, "is he. Is he."

"Will you listen?" he snapped.
"I have been listening," said Arthur, "but I'm not sure it's helped."

The bubble theory states that every universe is like a bubble. Think about how soap bubbles glide through the air freely and slowly. What happens if one bubble bounces into another? They could combine, they could both pop, only one may pop, they could create even more bubbles and so on. The bubble theory gives us many possibilities for how different universes may be created or destroyed. This may even explain the theory of the Big Bang. Unlike the infinite universes theory, the universes that are mentioned in the bubble theory have no coordination to one another.

That would mean Vogons are God.
