Freight/Cargo question

Hi,

This might be a silly question but...reading the MT Referee's Guide the other day, in the section on Cargo and Freight, it gives the table to roll on for how many & size of lots etc, and mentions that they can be either freight (Cr 1000/ton carry fee), or speculative cargo. However I can't see anywhere where it says how to determine how many of the lots are freight and how many are cargo.

Do you roll twice on the table each time for major, minor and incidental, once for cargo and once for freight, or do you roll once for each type and split it up somehow, or just decide by GM fiat? I can make it up, but it would be nice to know if there is an actual suggested method.

Hi Mark !

Guess the way to do it is to do one rolling sequence for cargo and one for freight.
The texts in the rulebook is a bit scrambled here, so there should be a note in the errata.

Yup, I have Don's most excellent errata, and there is a change for that section, but it doesn't resolve this question.

One set of rolls for each might be the way to go I suppose, or roll 1d6 per lot and say 1-3 = freight, 4-6 = cargo. Just thought it would be nice if there was a recommended way...

cheers,

Mark

I've always rolled several

Once for freight for each posted potential world
once for saleable cargos

If you're going to roll once and randomize, I'd recommend:
1-2 Cargo only
3-4 Freight but will sell as cargo
5-6 freight only

It looks like you just roll 2 sets of data.
On Page 50, Step 3 states 'Cargo and Freight are both determined beginning at Step 5'. To me that sound like you use the same steps for both.

To save time I would use Mort's T20Trading utility. It's for T20 but I think the basic logic is the same. It just gives you the number of passengers, cargo lots and speculative cargo. You still have to determine what they actually are yourself.

Download it here:

I was hoping.

I've posted a link to this topic over on the TML on the thread Don started recently that mentions his most recent update to the MT Errata file as of 25-Jul-2006.

Who knows? Perhaps an answer will work its way into the Errata.

(My TML e-mails seem to be taking a very long time to post, so I'm not exactly sure when my message will actually appear on the list.)
