Favorite Sector

Why was it decanonized? I enjoyed the JG stuff I read. (Indeed, I've been thinking of using Darthanon Queen and Simba Safari for the Gateway to Destiny stuff if I can get around to figuring out where to put it.)

Because GDW overwrote 2 of the 4 in Atlas of the Imperium, and either didn't want to or couldn't get permission to use the JG materials.

The Marches. For one thing I can reference them with the book. For another, they are traditional. For another, while they are getting crowded, there is still room to breathe and it is close enough to reach uncharted space from their. For another, there are a LOT of players vieing for dominance there, and while the Rim, in a sense has that too, the bipolarity of the politics drowns that out whereas the marches, though somewhat bipolar, leaves room for competitors. There are also more primitive, or semi developed worlds here. And lots of cool stuff like Vargr and Aslan.

I still like Reavers Deep as a great place to adventure. So open, so wild and wooly, so un-policed compared to other sectors. Plus the possibility of Imperial_Aslan-Solomani grudge fights, espionage, etc.

Although places like Far Frontiers, the Beyond, and the Vanguard Reaches, among others are great Leviathan adventure sectors as well.

Levithan is where I first heard of it, then at some point it becomes Trojan Reach. Yes, the Imperium is hemmed in on all sides pretty much.

Though Leviathan does seem to state it was settled, just not recorded in Imperial records.

I don't recall responding to this topic before now, so here goes:

First choice: The Spinward Marches

I know, I know, it's a big surprise.

I tend not to like the official Trojan Reach much. The subsectors adjacent to The Spinward Marches are mostly empty and what worlds are there are underpopulated and/or fairly backward. If you shift Rimward, you run straight into the Aslan and for whatever reason, I have just never felt much connection to the Aslan race and don't appreciate them or their culture. I have often thought of trying to build a campaign in the strip of independent worlds between the Imperium and the Aslan colonial region (or whatever it is called), but it all seemed too overshadowed by the two big powers.

Second choice: Gateway Domain

...from the T20 supplement, though I tend to want to play 1110 and not 990s era. Also, I know that's really four sectors. Oops.

I have actually been using travellermap to populate four sectors beyond the Vanguard Reaches: Fulani, Astron, Theron and Theta Borealis; which I plan on running a pbem/pbp CT game for at some point here.

If I had to pick a canon sector it would be Reft (specifically the Island cluster). But usually I set my games in the "faraway" sector, mostly somewhere rimward, often Hadji, Malorn or Rim Reach.

Those are interesting choices, can you expand on your choices? I am becoming more of a fan of the Solomani Rim than I was before. But Reavers Deep is still my favorite.

"The faraway sector" - Take a group of colonists/refugees (I usually use Terran dissidents or an official bolthole colony mission, often both; but there are plenty of reasons why a group might choose to settle far from charted space). Send them out several sectors beyond "settled space." Leave to simmer for several thousand years and hey presto instant play area. If you make it close enough (say two or three sectors) you can even have some meaningful interactions with the OTU.

The Far Frontiers Sector from the Old FASA stuff, as well as the Map from the imperium is great, and has potential for Firefly/Babylon 5 type adventures. Far enough out from the Imperium, and close enough to the Zhodani to be interestingly different.

My own Faraway Sector first, then the Marches for the usual reasons.

My Faraway is next to the big 'kink' in the Great Rift, about even with the Hierate and about 15 sectors spinward. A bit more than halfway to the edge of the Arm.

My vote?

The sector that Tavonni is in the middle of. ;)

(No big surprises there).

But I did make up my own versions of Foreven and Far Frontiers, way way way before that Foreven dot-map came out. I used a broken-up Die Weltbund in Foreven, thus neatly avoiding Hans' later (quite reasonable) objections to having a big Zho client state so near the 'Marches yet with so little influence.

OK, so the background was a little immature (a bad guy dictator called "Adelph" holding half the Weltbund, fighting the good guys - who were rallying the "free worlds", ahem - who lived on a world called "Haven"). However, with a bit of tweaking, maturity, and "dirtying-up", it could have been an interesting place to play. Almost Star-Viking-pocket-empirish, in a way.

But the Marches gives me so much pre-generated stuff, it's a great place to play.

Sounds pretty close to my suggestion for reconciling Die Weltbund (or Weltenbund as a German friend told me was the correct form) with the Avalar Consulate. Up until the 5th Frontier War, the Weltbund was a neutral-but-friendly-towards-the-Imperium loose confederation that included Avalar. During the 5FW, Avalar (backed by the Zhos) took control of the Weltbund and became the Avalar Consulate, a Zhodani Client State.

Era

For me it depends on the era and who Humanti meets.

5th frontier war -Spinward Marches (Zho)
Hard Times/New Era - Corridor (Vargr / Virus)
Rule of Man - Reavers Deep (Aslan)
M0 - Capital (political intrigue)

Favorite module that is a tough one... yep Leviathan was good but i also liked Sky Raiders and many others.
