Lots of Traveller this week.
100% free to play--we provide all materials needed and we teach you to play! All of these games are open to join in, watch, or play.
Calendar of games: https://vtt.mikezekim.com/events
In addition, we are always happy to run teaching games, using simple ships, to grow the community!
Tuesday, 4 Aug 2020
8:30PM EDT (00:30 GMT/UTC) Carrier Strike! (West Coast Group)
A Zhodani Driafria-class carrier and two small escorts strike an Imperial force led by Plankwell commanded by an incompetent admiral (and enough small ships to balance the points). Organized by Jim K.
Thursday, 6 Aug 2020
1:00PM EDT (17:00 GMT/UTC) Prometheus: Rising or Falling? (Traveller With the Brits)
It's all about the big boys: 4 Solomani Prometheus DN vs. 3 Imperial Plankwell BBs! (second playtest run)
Friday, 7 Aug 2020
Noon EDT (16:00 GMT/UTC) Traveller Introductory Game (European-Friendly SqSt Timeslot)
Elliott Goddard introduces the European crowd to Traveller. (Look for details Friday, after we get the scenario set up.)
Sunday, 9 Aug 2020, 6:00 PM EDT (Overflow Evening Slot)
6:00 PM EDT (22:00 GMT/UTC) Traveller--Tale of the Tiger
The Aslan and the Imperials clash in the run-up to the Fifth Frontier War! This is the first of three inter-linked scenarios over the next three weeks.
Contact the Activities Directors
West Coast Tuesdays (sometimes other days): Jim K. is our fearless activity director for the Tuesday evening games. You can reach him through his contact form https://vtt.mikezekim.com/component/contact/contact/5?Itemid=101
Friday Festivals for Europe: Elliot Goddard at elliotgoddard@btinternet.com directs activities timed for our friends in Europe (i.e., not in the middle of the night!).
Sunday Funday: Ken Watanabe at watank@gmail. Is he a barrel of monkeys, or the Sunday Activities Director? Want to influence what games get played on Sundays? Let Ken know (consider bribing him with a banana).
How Do I Play?
Our online games of Squadron Strike run in your browser. We also use voice and chat through Discord.
You'll need:
*A modern browser (we recommend Chrome and Edge for best compatibility)
*A headset and a microphone
*Discord installed on your computer
You'll want:
*A 1920x1080 monitor, so the interface fits well
*A solid Internet connection for good voice quality
Nice to have, but not necessary:
*A second monitor so that you can have chat, the mute button, and the side rooms visible (side rooms are for extra tutoring, discussing tactics, letting players pair off to resolve combat between their ships, etc.)
*A headset and built-in mic with a physical mute button
All games are played on the "beta" version of the Squadron Strike Virtual Map: https://vtt.mikezekim.com/beta/
Learn more about the virtual map at https://vtt.mikezekim.com/learn
What's Discord and Why?
Discord is a voice and chat app that lets you set up rooms and side rooms for games, among other features. It's like a 'better' version of Skype.
You could run in it a browser, but you need to install the the app to do screen sharing, which greatly speeds learning and play. ("Hey, how do I do this?" "Hey, I'm not seeing the thing you say should be there. Could you look at my screen?") Also, we've found that the voice quality is better in the app.
