How about Droyne stowaways?

Drove the players nuts!

The would see them on the monitors and then when they went to check it out, nothing

Finally they smartened up and sent someone in and kept someone on the monitors. It was fun describing the scene (I kept the one player (Bridge Crew)separate from the rest):

Bridge Crew: To your left
Investigator: WHAT? WHERE?
BC: turn clockwise, there. Right in front of you!
I: Have you lost your *&%* mind? The room is empty.
BC: Never mind , they just left into the hall...
I: what the hell are you talking about? What just left?!?

The players themselves did not know about Droyne invisibility, as I assume most Imperials do not either

In addition, there is the astute comment about the Five Sisters.
A ring of Imperial bases around the 2 top Droyne homeworld candidates.
I guess hte real question is how disseminated is the info about the Droyne?
Does the average person now know?
Is this a conspiracy?
Or do people just look at them and say "Them? Get Real!"

The joke phrase in my group is "...and an indeterminate number of Droyne."

Back in the closing days of MT, I ran a sadly brief game in the Black War era that (had I waited a year) would have been a New Era game instead. The various and sundry castaways in system detected, visited and slowed a drifting Solomani Bulk Freighter with a Kroylos onboard. Until they figured out who the leader was and asked him, the players had no idea just how many Droyne were onboard, and the Leader's answer was "Ten...I think."

As I have said on a different board - Droyne are invisible and often psionic. This makes for a rather worrying military force if they get angry as you cant see them but they know your every move. They also have their undead. In one of my long running campaigns I had a Yoda like character as an NPC called Tsark. He was an ex Sport Recon soldier who had level 15 psionic abilities and had refused ritual suicide. He had been a merc but had disappeared to contemplate the mysteries of level 15 rejuvenation. During the Rebellion he became something of a quest character for the characters (who worked for Norris) in order that he could be used as a military aid. He was never found (as I moved away before we finished) but the search was a good background plot.

IMO a lot of it is available to anyone who cares enough to dig for it, but very few do. Some things (like the connection between Droyne and Chirpers) has not really percolated through even the sientific community yet.

Does the average person now know?

Again IMO, most people think Droyne are just like Humans: Some are psionic, but most are ordinary, decent aliens. Those who know that a lot of Droyne are psionic are usually not very interested in making trouble over it (Most anti-psionic feeling are among the uneducated).

What about Droyne for the Droyne. At various points in CT and GURPS there has been talk of a Droyne rennaisance. Thus far Droyne are usually isolated on reservations but, what if the Droyne start expanding once again. This time with quick technological know-how passed down from their Ancestors.

How would Humaniti and the Imperium react to Droyne on the march within their own borders? Remember Droyne have a have mentality once they start, it would be hard to stop.

Talking of Hive mentalities, I'd worry about the Hivers if I was the Droyne version of Otto von Bismark. The Hivers "failed" manipulation of the Imperium was about psionics. Surely the Hivers would pay great attention to a psionic race which is scattered throughout the known galaxy. The Hivers are very good at spotting and neutralising threats. Perhaps they were attempting to raise the psi potential in humans to counter the "Droyne threat".

(imtu) I've taken some ideas from Protector by Larry Niven - When Droyne eat Rech fruit grown under certain conditions they become longer-lived, much smarter, aggressive and independent. In this state their prime motivations are to extend their bloodline and eliminate other enhanced Droyne. In other words, they become Ancients.

I _like_ this one.

Droyne could have an unconventional approach to recon - they can dig in deep and use clairvoyance, reporting their observations through telepathy. This gives them some advantage over conventional forces.

I'm really into this now. Maybe T5 should be set against the Droyne Renaissance?

I use the MKUltra et al guidelines and structures from ConspiracyX to handle the remote viewing and other psychic capabilities of the Droyne. Interestingly, there are a few RL links to websites by Ed Dames and the like where you can get your hands on genuine RV training kits like Mindazzle and see how the CIA do it. IMTU though I don't like such awesome power so I build in psychic corruption and seepage so that anyone trying to use this power tends to go crazy or fall under the influence of whatever plot I'm running :)

Where did you get the scource material on Droyne? Relatively new stuff? or non GDW?

The four main sources about Droyne and Ancients that I use:

</font>
  • Droyne Module (GDW)</font>
  • Twilight's Peak Adventure (GDW)</font>
  • Secret of the Ancients (GDW)</font>
  • GT:Alien Races 3 (SJG)</font>
Great thing about GT:AR3 is they give some cardboard Coyns for roleplaying casting rituals.
Hope that helps

I'll have to reread what I got when I get back to the real world. Wasn't able to bring the library with me. :(

Can I also add the Creejoydray (?) adventure in the GDW Alien Realms adventure supplement. Little known, perhaps, but is about a Droyne leader who breaks from his Kroyloss and takes a puts together a ship of warriors and sports to go to Venejen (of Research Station Gamma fame) to protect and start casting the Chirpers there.

Also the TNE Smash and Grab supplement has a very interesting adventure where a Mother Virus takes on a Droyne personality.

Without sounding like a heretic, there is also the T4 adventure in which Adventurers let loose an Ancient who begins to create Droyne from Chirpers.

For me, this is a more satisfying explaination for the Droyne rennaisance. As I think Grandfather just wanted the Droyne to go back to their pastural existance after having destroyed a quarter of Chartered Space...witness all the planetoid belts where supposely were Ancient bases...

I'm beginning to think that Hunter & co. should definitely put some Droyne and Chirpers somewhere in Ley Sector.

I've been having some evil ideas of late involving Chirpers, Solomani, anti-Psionic prejudice and the megacorporation SuSAG. Oddly enough, it was sparked by a thread elsewhere on this site about the Vargr...

A case of "Ask and you shall receive," or "Great minds think alike"? :D

I know, it's probably been in the works for quite some time. But still, the synchronicity is amazing.
