born in to a lesser branch of one of the United Planets leading families, not wanting any of the life paths the family had chosen for her she joined her families chosen branch of the military, her aptitude testing and academic record where of a level that her family did not have to spend any influence to have her placed in the top ranked academy, where she graduated third in her class. on her midshipman's cruse the squadron she was assigned to engaged in one of the largest peacetime battles in generations, her personal actions earned her an exemption from the regulation that prevented midshipmen from normally earning personal or unit decorations wile serving as a midshipman. after graduation she served the minimum amount of time as an Ensign before being promoted to Leftenant (J.G.) she is already on the short list for promotion to Senior Grade having already passed her examination and Board Interview she merely awaits the opining of a senior grade Leftenant billet opening within the fleet. she has less than 1000 hours remaining before she earns her Expedition badge, being a Junior Staff Officer with few other duties, her passed experience and a small craft pilot qualification she finds it easy to have herself assigned to landing and Boarding parties and expects to soon earn her Expedition Badge.

Nope they are a uninspiredly named government, they where part of the Kingdom of United Planets until they had an American style revulsion and became Space America, after about a century they had a civil war where the dirty laundry about the founding fathers and their shadowy backers came out (the last of the founding fathers died out around a decade before the civil war). in the wake of the civil war they abolished the presidency and gutted the powers of the senate (becoming a chamber of review over being a coequal house of legislature) and became a Parliamentary Republic with an appointed ceremonial head of state and head of government vested in the leader of the lower house (Called the "Representative Forum") majority that selects a cabinet from among their elected members.
