Contragrav

Libris

SOC-12
In FFS2 contragrav seems a bit underpowered when it comes to lateral thrust. The maximum acceleration appears to be about 0.16g if I'm reading page 65 correctly  . As currently written, Thrusters are way more powerful and with thrust equal to 400kN per cubic metre are not far off the lift capabilities of contragrav. I think a correction is required and some geek speak required to explain why contragrav is used and not thrusters. I think it is necessary to divide a contragrav unit into two components, a thrust component and a lift component.

I am seriously contemplating rewriting FFS2 (simply for my own amusement) with errata included and various house rules incorporated. Then again... ;)

I haven't read the rules in a while, but wasn't contra-grav "only" for negating the gravitational pull of the world? The thrust was supposed to come from an additional agency IIRC.

Yes, but CT defined an air-raft as using contragrav lift and propulsion so FFS2 does the same; just not very well.

Presumably contragrav is directional, and 0.16G might be reasonable for thrusting nearly perpendicular to the ambient gravitational field.
