Wrong. Please use logic in arguing why a simple code, in the native language, widely known cannot work. That people may have CORRUPTED legal systems through unnecessary complexity in the past doesn't mean they are unworkable. You have NOT demonstrated unworkability of simpler systems. Despite you assertion to the contrary.

Can you give me an example of a large society that uses a simple code?

trying not to jump into the charged waters, but it is basically people. Get enough people and things don't work out the same way they do in smaller groups. Be it herd mentality or what have you, there are always people who will break the system one way or another.

Tragedy of the commons taken a bit further basically. See also crowd psychology (where the more people there are, the less responsible most people feel essentially)

While this would be a really interesting conversation (a Hobbs vs Locke sort of thing) I fear it not answer / extend the original point of the thread which is the minimum requirements for a colony to survive. Though it is tangentially related I suppose: if everyone kills (or murders) everyone else obviously the colony won't survive.
