Cherry picking LBB2 versions...

I could see that, but then what happens to the CT ships with the old bridge? Do they get 16 tons back, or 10 tons, or none at all?

I think that leaving the bridge as it was in CT is the best way to avoid any "instant obsolescence" of CT designs while allowing referees to add whatever they want.

I =like= the idea of CIC's, Flag Bridges, Fighter Control Centers, Cargo Monitor Stations, Engineering Centrals, and whatever else you might want (a big liner would certainly have an Environmental Central Control, for instance). I think the size and cost of such control centers should be based on the size (and cost) of whatever it is they are controlling (CIC's based on the ship's sensors and weapons, Flag Bridges on the number of =other= ships to be commanded, Cargo Monitors on the size of the cargo bay(s), etc, etc, etc.)

But I think the basic "bridge" should stay as it is to maintain backwards compatability. YMMVIYTU.

Re:Bridges

I always considered CT & HG "Bridges" to include equipment not otherwise specified in ship designs; i.e. communications, sensors, life-support, control consoles, etc. It could be broken out is desired and itsounds like a lot was in MT and later versions.

Welcome BillDowns! I tend to agree on the bridges.

One other thing to consider is that the increasing bridge size was a math-simple way to accomodate a larger bridge for a larger crew. If your tonnage goes up, so will your crew complement. And, some of that is bound to be on your bridge (or some other watch station). Now, I haven't looked at the numbers, but it always seemed logical to me.

LBB2 = Little Black Book 2 "Starships"
It was in the first set of three books produced for Traveller. Basic chargen was found in LBB1, and "Worlds and Adventures" in LBB3. Advanced chargen came along in LBBs4-7 and robots in LBB8.

I believe all the LBBs were later incorporated into TTB - The Traveller Book.

Ok/ I was just unfamiliar with the nomenclature. I do indeed know what the LBB's are and I have a copy of the Traveller Book. I would dearly love to have a set of the first three bookis in an original box, just to show the youngsters in my T20 campaign what they looked like.

Uh, no.

The Traveller Book (TTB) only incorporates LBBs 1-3. It also includes two adventures, a few Amber Zones, and the subsector map and library data for the Regina subsector.

However, the first Big Floppy Book (BFB) Classic Traveller Reprints: The Books does include Books 0-8.

I argued against the 20 ton bridge for T20... I was shouted down by a quiet "not a chance" from hunter... ;)

daryen, thanks - I only have the reprints. (And, I thought TTB was heresy when I heard about it because it wasn't LBB!)

Allensh - keep an eye on eBay. Every now and then an original boxed set comes up for auction. They can trend pricey if the wrong people are bidding that week, though! ;)
