Character Generation Advanced Education

I'm trying to ensure I have a handle on how T4 Book 1 Chapter 2 Character Generation Step 2 Advanced Education works without a lot of detail.

There are eight Advanced Education options available to a character and nine common steps;

The nine items are
1. Prerequisite which establishes the characteristic or characteristics needed try for admission.

2. Admission is the target number + any modifiers needed to get into the selected option.

3. Preferential Enrollment if any two of required characteristics are 2+ higher than than the required number the applicant is automatically accepted and skips the Failed Admission step.

4. Failed Admission determines how long the character lasted and the number of Academic skills received. With the referee's consent the character can try entering one of the other advanced education options.

5. Perseverance A successful roll means the character lasted through the entire course of either 1, 2, or 4 years and sends the character to item 7 with fours rolls. A failed roll means sends the character to item 6.

6. Flunked Out determines the number of years the character attended and the number of skills gained in the time span.

7. Academic Skills are what the character can learn of the particular advanced education option. For a successful Perseverance roll the character either rolls or selects four skills. If the character Flunked out then a roll is made to see how many academic skills were earned.

8. Graduation provides the degree received for completing the course.

9. Honors provides the extra bonus factors allocated to the character for success. One example would be going to Medical school.

College has two additional options which are attending OTC and NOTC.

Have I got the basic idea down?

Good night, Tom

Just some additions:

7. Academic Skills are what the character can learn of the particular advanced education option. For a successful Perseverance roll the character either rolls or selects four skills. If the character Flunked out then a roll is made to see how many academic skills were earned.

And a +1 ed per year on the school...

8. Graduation provides the degree received for completing the course.

9. Honors provides the extra bonus factors allocated to the character for success. One example would be going to Medical school.

Honors usually also gives you some bonus skill too

College has two additional options which are attending OTC and NOTC.

Both of them give you 2 more skills.

Here I quote you the first two terms of (an extreme example) what academic training may be in T4.

Intial UPP: 777777 homeworld St A, Lg size, std atm, wet, hi Pop, mod Law, HiSt TL

Background skills: for homeworld: computer 1, grav veh 1
Tables : Mark: survival, computer, clandestine (streetwise),gun combat (rifle)

First term:
Mark is lucky enough to enter college and pass his perseverance. There he gains +4 edu + 4 skills. Luck dictates all four skils ar jack of all trades. He tries and passes NOTC, adquiring tactics and bureaucracy (leadership). He also is lucky on his honors roll, gaining a +1 ed more. He is naval rank 1.

Second term:
Mark joins the medical school and passes his perseverance. He adquires +4 to ed (as this whould up his ed to G, he only gains +3) and 4 skills, luck dictates they are research (two times) and admin (two times too). As for benefits he also gains medical 3 (minimum). He rolls for honors and has them, gaining +1 to medical and computer too. He is now naval rank 3.

Evening McPerth and thank-you for the reply and clarifications,

7. Academic Skills are what the character can learn of the particular advanced education option. For a successful Perseverance roll the character either rolls or selects four skills. If the character Flunked out then a roll is made to see how many academic skills were earned.

I don't see the +1 ed per year listed as part of the Academic skills however I do see that T4 Book 1 Chapter 2 Character Generation p. 19, without the number 8

8. Graduation confers upon a graduate the listed benefit: an academic degree, automatic enlistment in a career, or both. The graduate also adds +1 to his Edu per year for the full term, and ages the same amount.

9. Honors provides the extra bonus factors allocated to the character for success. One example would be going to Medical school.

Honors usually also gives you some bonus skill too

Honors are not awarded for completing either Flight or Commando School.
+1 Edu is a common Honors Benefit for College, Graduate School, Military, Naval, and Merchant Academies.

Medical School is an Honors benefit for College, Military, Naval, and Merchant Academies.

The Honors for a College NOTC graduate is flight school.

The Military Academy Honors graduate is automatically accepted into Commando School.

The Naval Academy Honors graduate is automatically accepted to Flight School during the first term of service.

Medical School Honor graduates get a +1 level to Medical and Computer skills

You caught me trying to be overly brief and are correct that

College has two additional options which are attending OTC and NOTC.

A successful admission roll for either OTC or NOTC gives the skills of the Bureaucracy Cluster (administration and/or leadership) and Tactics. Both OTC and NOTC the character enlists as an O1 in the Army or Navy. T4 Book 1 page 27.

I followed the character example right up to this point in bold letters

He acquires +4 to ed (as this would up his ed to G, he only gains +3) and 4 skills, luck dictates they are research (two times) and admin (two times two).

Where did the a admin (two times two) come from since 2 of the 4 skill points went to research, which leaves two for administration right?

Thanks again for the help

I'm afraid a typo of mine confused you here. It should say two times too, instead of two times two. Sorry, I'll correct it right now.

That makes more sense of course that shows my mind is trying to tell me to hit the bunk. I should have gotten that two met too.

Have a good one and Thanks for the help McPerth.
