Character creation mod for term

Hi

During character creation in a number of careers rolls (especially continue rolls) are modified by Terms. My question is if this modifier is terms already served or if it includes the current term?

I can't find a hard answer in the book so I was wondering if any had seen something or what peoples opinions are. I am leaning towards the number including the current term as most of these rolls are at the end of the term.

Thanks

I've always used it as "Terms Completed" since characters who fail survival (using the short term and out option) are listed as X+0.5 terms, not X+1 terms.

If a Terms mod comes toward the end of that Term's checks, I add the +1. If it were early on, I probably wouldn't.

Example: for Scholars, rolls for promotion, tenure, and to continue are based on number of publications, and one rolls for publication before one makes those rolls. I thus allow this term's publication, if any, to affect those rolls.

[Referee] No 1st Term Mod.

My rule is that the first Term never counts. So in Term 1 your Mod is 0, in Term 2 your Mod is +1, and so on.

I figure you don't get to count the Term you just finished and that it just counts toward future Terms in the same Career. The Mod reverts to 0 if you change Careers as well.

Just tried to do a walk thru with another person in meat-space today. We had a clarity issue. For spacer to continue it is a 7, +1 per term. Is that a positive thing (i.e. it makes it easier to stay in the career) or a negative thing (makes it harder to stay in the career)?

Also, can someone point me to what the specialized skills for career:X are described?

The + term is listed as a Mod rather then a DM so it should be making the target number grater which makes it easier to stay in the career.

The Career:X are know ledges and described on pages174-175.

Thanks for the page nos.

Using it as a way to make the target number larger makes it more likely for chargen to create middle aged to geriatric characters with a huge pile of skills and muster bennies. Since this tends to lead to a lack of motivation to adventure, I see that as counter productive.

Now, if this mod is to make the actual die result higher and thus makes it progressively harder to stay in a career than more characters would be forced out before they are masters of their own little corner of the universe and thus have reason to adventure.

Or, they could be the type of person who hates being bored, and they found retired life to be more boring then they first thought. After a short time being retired, they find they need to seek out some kind of adventure to make their life interesting again.
