Bursting With Excited Anticipation

Actually, why don't one of you who has it figured (I don't - I've not tried it since before Knowledges were split from skills) do a walk through in a thread. You can even use the die-roller...

I am not opposed to doing that although it would take time away from the CharGen Spreadsheet.

Dice roll test:

[roll0]

using the "roll"2d6"/roll" for this (where the " are []) to ensure I know how it works (from the FAQ).

I knew I'd post the Chargen errata too late for someone :(

Note that I'm doing a T5 Chargen walkthrough on Google+...

Character gen I get. It's combat, and the various sense's that killed me.

Something replaced it?

Seems like there are a lot of Traveller fans in the community now...

*shrugs* Facebook? Over 5 times more "active" users.

I have an account on google+ since beta, but frankly the content has seemed lacking. I will search out the Traveller community on g+, but not sure I want another place to "hang out." Was sort of hoping that COTI would be the place to "hang" for Traveller goodness :)

Facebook is really suffering from LOTS of noise, very little signal. About all it seems good for anymore is "just hanging out." G+ is lacking a lot of the random noise. Then again, i keep getting "Linkedin" invites. And still prefer the classic myspace interface.

That's why I joined here Aramis. I haven't even considered and would even bother to try and find any other place to hang out when it comes to Traveller.

I hang out at Mongoose because that is where most of the current products are being published and talked about. Now I have account here BUT now that T5 is In-Bound I will come here and chat as well too. So thus I will chat on both forms, I always try to stay current and buy anything Traveller...must have it ALL..Dead Tree version as well only!!!

Well, the posting of a negative T5 review in G+ got me into going through the Chargen rules with discussion...

DonM is already replying in that thread.

I was VERY surprised when there was not an index in the HBB. But using the PDF for searches makes that almost acceptable.

I have a few other thoughts on how to make the HBB better, but I am trying to take it all in. The more I know maybe the less important a concern is.

At the moment the high of just having the book and reading it is enough :)

I've been reading and thinking about this material since I joined the Beta in 2009. I've found that as I become more familiar with the book, the entirety of it becomes easier to understand.

My advice to someone new to T5, but familiar with Traveller is to try out some subset of the rules first, like Gun Maker. If you have no idea what Traveller is, read the book up until the Dice chapter and then skip ahead to Benchmarks. If you're not hooked after that, you don't like ice cream.

Uh-oh... my T5 box has just arrived and is sitting on my office desk, less than a metre away while I type this sweating and agonising... I'm torn between doing a phone interview or shutting myself away in the office for the rest of the day with T5.

Despite what the reviewers said in the link above, I'm looking forward to this magnus opus of Marc and the beta's. But you know, there will always be some that aren't pleased with what's been written. It's been that way with every Traveller release after the LBB's and armchair critics will always be around putting in their two credit's worth. For anyone that's read my novels, you'll know that mistakes creep in no matter what efforts are taken, and it's part of life that even spell checkers and proofreaders can't remove. I still remember one of Pournelle's books once that looked like it had been edited by a five year old, but you know what.. I still loved the story and overlooked the mistakes for what he was sharing with me in the book. T5 is the same, there might be some errors, but give it a chance and read it and read it and read it, then play around with it and you'll come to love it as well.

Now... that big box is calling to me, so I'm going to ignore the interview and concentrate on what's important... enjoying T5.

The early word I've seen is bad, on T5. Like this review here: http://www.rpggeek.com/thread/963951/initial-review-of-the-book-not-playtesting

I'm reserving judgement until I see it and spend some time with it.

I stopped reading half way through the first post when he/she referred to Traveller as being existence for '50 years'. Couldn't read any more as I couldn't take it seriously.
Whoever wrote that review has surely based their opinion on a quick flick through the book.
