Only 36 years... but generally, most of the reviews have been either "toolkit to part out" or "Don't bother"... a few, a rare few, have been positive.

I will say that it certainly feels like the feedback was filtered heavily. Except that I've caught Marc online reading threads.
 
I've said it elsewhere, I'll say it here...

Marc got my rearrangements (to try and match the flow of the drafts I had so he could look at comments sequentially) and PDFs of the online forums, so not much filtering...
 
As to feedback-filtering.... I find it very puzzling that my name is in the credits, as I had no input.

Well, actually....

I was consulted, back in 1998, about some elements of the system. I wrote several pages of suggestions which were never acknowledged and which, upon looking at the book, seem to have been completely ignored. So no input as far as I can see.

I suspect that the filtering process might have included an element of 'that comment doesn't agree with what I want to do'. I decided not to have anything more to do with T5 when I realised that this was going to happen every time - I disagreed with what Marc was doing and was therefore simply going to be ignored.

Now, if it turns out that he proces has produced an awesome game then I'll be happy to admit that I called it wrong, or at least that my concerns about the approach were unfounded. It'll be interesting to see what folks think once the dust has settled a little..
 
I hope Marc doesn't get disheartened by some if this early negative review stuff.
I went back and flipped through some of the replies in that thread and it seems like many of the replies are from people who haven't yet read the book but are still saying something negative about it.
I live in a very small rural community and if one person says something about you, then tells 5 more people, by the end of the day the whole community has formed an opinion about you based on somebody else's inaccurate opinion.
It seems that is what is going on here.
I find it hard to believe that many of these negative reviewers have digested 600+ pages of content, enough to have such a strong negative reaction to it.
Hopefully some of the positive reviews will overshadow them.
 
I'm reserving my opinion of the book itself. I had grave doubts about the process that created it (based on personal experience) but I'm prepared to be won over.

That said, I'd agree that it's unlikely anyone had yet digested the whole thing. I've had my e-copy for a while (because of involvement in a soon to be revealed project) and I've thus far found it somewhat impenetrable.
 
Too much of all of this sounds like personality stuff, which nobody cares about; if you want to sell me stuff - forget the personality bs and make products worth buying. I don't regret buying T5, all the mong stuff lately like the new german robots, or Lee's Cirque KS.
 
I have no regrets at all. Thoroughly delighted. I've begun working with the world and system generation, which is always my favorite part. It is a huge tome, it has a lot of stuff I haven't seen in other games before, but thus far I haven't come across anything that makes it seem not worth the price or wait.

I like my BBB, I'm disappointed that a few useful things were left out to make room for less useful stuff, and some of the rules examples aren't particularly helpful while some examples of rules and equipment appear to have errors in them.

But otherwise I am actually pleased with the Book.

My copy came in today. While I've read the negative reviews and comments, I'm a grown-up and like to make up my own mind. All I know is as I approached the table to open that USPS box I felt a flash of what i felt 34 years ago when I got that little black box. I didn't have any real expectations then- just that It be a Science Fiction Rpg. As long as the core rules are solid enough , and self consistent I'll be more than Happy. Thanks Marc, for seeing this thing through.Thanks for the opportunity to be part of something near and dear to so many hearts. Oh, And while I've had the CD for a while, I wanted to wait for the book, 'cause, you know, somethings have to be held in your hands...
 
I received the e-mail today. I should have the book in 2-9 days, according to the shipping estimate.

Let's see...that's 1d8 +1, right?

Wait! We don't normally use a d8 in Traveller...!!!
 
I got a email today that stated that my package of T5 and CD were shipped today via PayPall notification and I should have it between 2-9 days.

Now I must say, I view this book as a pure resource tome of Traveller ideas that after I read will decide what or if I add anything to my own In-House rule set. I must say I have stated this same thing over at Mongoose and quite a few folks there are Pure Mongoose Only players and only follow the officail word of that one version of the game. I like all the versions of the game but use my own home grown rules that I use a d100 base approach mostly.

To each their own, but remember the goal here is to have fun.

Regardless of any official word, Mongoose Traveller and Traveller5 are related. But then I've never been a purist.

That's good to know. I ordered from the web store exactly a month later than you so it's great to see the web orders moving.
I haven't received any email yet but using your example, it shouldn't be too long now.

Now I am really 'bursting with excited anticipation'

Look, they best BURST! I got Ks of CrImps invested in the poncho cart out front. If they have to give out returns I am gonna lose a bundle here. :devil:
