Building Spaceship: concept to full-size

Not even...200-400... first guess

now, taking a look and assuming the ladder in the nacelle is 2m, and the chap next to it 180cm.
about 12m high, 20m long, 15m wide.... 3600m3 or about 257.143 dt, as a bounding box. Given the slopes and cuts, probably about 200 Dt.

I have to ask what was the purpose of building it?

Drawing it I can understand - that's creativity. Even making a scale model is fine, but unless it's part of a film set, creating a full size mock-up seems to be an unforgivable waste of money and resources.

Maybe I'm just a philistine, but I really don't see the point.

What's the point of playing games? It doesn't do anything and is a waste of time and resources (considering how much money over the years I've spent on games I don't even get to play!)....

I thought it was really cool, and why not - life is fun and meant to be enjoyed. Wish I could go to Germany to see it. A park where I grew up had a decommissioned jet - engines removed, cockpit was sealed. But you could climb all over it and into the exhausts - I always pretended it was a space ship even then. And from what appears to be slides in the front (last image) this may just be a giant play set anyway...

edit: it is part of a theme park, so there's the entire raison d'etre

True. ;)

That'll do nicely. :)

Well hard to say i was going to guess 400 tons because it is quite tall but it is short too so i don't know but very cool. While I fidn ti a waste of resources in a sense it would make for a nice hotel in a sci fi theme part of sorts with a few rooms you can rent the captains quarters for a little extra would be a cool place to go. And it i hit the powerball for 9 figures i will get one too and everyone is invited.

Hi,

Looking at one of the secondary links from the original post ( http://www.differentfutures.com/ ), it indicates that it is 36m long, 15m high, 14m wide and has an internal area of 850 sq m on 3 decks.

On the one hand, 36 x 15 x 14 = about 540 to 560 dtons, though when you consider the shaping of the hull and spece taken up by the legs etc, it will probably be much lower.

However, if you take the 850 sq m times about 3m for each deck (like in basic Traveller layouts) that gives about 182 to 189 dtons, though there may be other miscellaneous areas (like tankages) that would not be a part of the 850 sq m of arrangeable space.

So overall, I'd guess somewhere between 200 and maybe 350 dtons as a rough guess.

Regards

PF
