Budget ships

So, how cheaply can we get into space?

With Generic A-drives in a cheap 100 Dt hull we get something like this:

120 Dt, J-1, M-1, 70 Dt cargo, MCr 19 (perhaps MCr 17 as a standard design).
Unstreamlined hull with wings & fins to make it landable even with a bit of overtonnage.
A token stateroom that can bunk up to four people.
A single Dt set aside for upgrades, such as a turret.

Note that a better computer is selected to handle the jump calculations. Since that isn't absolutely necessary, we might save a few MCr with a smaller computer.

How about something a little bit more usable?

320 Dt, J-2, 2 G, 4 High, 5 Mid, 120 Dt cargo, MCr 50 (perhaps MCr 45 in quantity)
Can carry a 30 Dt pod or small craft externally in a grapple.
All standard staterooms are dual capable. Fairly spacious with Comfort 5 and Demand +1.
Space set aside for a few turrets and a mail vault.
Decent commo & radar, no detailed/targeting sensor.

Quite, with ~40 Dt payload it is slightly more capable than the original Scout with 24 Dt payload. It can easily carry, say, five dual-capable staterooms and some cargo. A jump-capable van?

Or, if we hate people, a platoon barracks...
 
at least "business class". You do not want your rep/brooker/negociator to be worn out by 2 weeks in cattle class (needing a few days to recover) before hitting the market 18 hrs a day to maximize the 3-4 day information edge over the slower moving competition

I hadn't really planned to, but might give it a go...

The 100t design is based on a MgT design:

It's basically just a rectangular cargo hold with a control/habitation module in front and drive to the sides.

The cargo hold is 70 Dt, about 7 squares wide by 21 squares long, with a hatch in the rear. Standardised 10 (7 by 3 squares) or 20 Dt (7 by 6 squares) functional containers can be slid in and connected, e.g. habitation containers or fuel containers.

Think of a panel van or cargo aircraft. Not much to draw...
 
I just think your budget ship is really cool. And I could imagine a really sleek streamlined version for PCs as their first ship.

As a corporate courrier:

The D20 module forward in the hold with the D10 after. A corridor running between the engine separate the two module. The after module have only one room for the steward with the second room a mail vault. The after Lounge is the Crew lounge and does not need to be that spacious if some space is needed. One of the D-20 stateroom night be actually luggage space (count as lounge for comfort as having easy access to your luggage is a comfort factor).

The Hammer Class 100dt scout kind of reminds me of a budget starship. Except I think it has staterooms, but it's streamlined.
