My, you're going all-out with this, aren't you?

This being the group I tried to join, but found the pace too hard to keep up with, as I recall.

You call this all out?

Really, I have worse *coughs into fist -mppphrrppphhunnmm-*

I mean I have more to do to make it truly pop. This is just Draft Materials right now. Still feel free to add something if you see a hole.

It's what comes from CharGen-ing a character who's already near the top of his tree, Jame. Normally this stuff would be created over years of play. <gently pulls Mags' leg> ;)

The pace of the game seems to have slowed considerably, and I believe our current Ref still has characters to fill if you're interested?

Maybe I will. Just tell me what kind of character is appropriate and which system you're using.

Before I send a resume I need to clear up a couple things.
- For Engineer, General and Engineer, Drive: what is Gravitics? What MGT Engineering skill(s) are substitutable?
- Can I assume that Science(electronics) or Engineer(electronics) can be substituted for the Electronics requirement for Systems Engineer?
- For Medic can Science(biology) replace Sensors skill. In MGT pg 96 look at Bioscanner and NAS.

And so it begins

I couldn't wait for your response, so here are some preliminaries.

The Hiring of Crew MetaGame between CG and Mags:

An unknown person will try to familiarize himself with his potential new employer [and to ensure he is not walking in a trap set by some pirate looking to enslave a valuable worker], his company [The Blue Smoke Spacers], the ship [ISS Blue Smoke], and the ships captain before sending off his resume.

A check taking 10-60 min [compared to the 1-6 in MGT pg 53] on the net, better business bureau and other public sources is 2d6, Computers, Intelligence = 15. If something curious is discovered: [Please don't look otherwise]
Spoiler:
An investigation of another 10-60min will be made to discover details 2d6, Investigate, Intelligence = 14. During this check if anything suspicious is discovered: [Please don't look otherwise]
Spoiler:
a request for Imperial Naval Records via the local Naval facility is possible - authorized by Djih Abberdash, retired Captain. [Not sure what the check would be to see if the request is authorized - what skills? rank as a DM?] If this happens, it is possible Magnus would be alerted before he even gets a resume. ["Dukam! Someone is checking on me" - and may think it has something to do with his mission?]

ooc: Try to use these rolls for determining what info a future employee may uncover to give him peace of mind that he is walking into a nice workplace. These are not attempts to pry into anything he shouldn't be looking at. Details uncovered are fine but a simple "looks like a great opportunity" or "It is a brand new enterprise with certain inherent risks but the owner and captain seam to be competent folk" is fine and would precipitate a resume being sent off.

It goes something like this.....

Is ok, I am back again, in effect and rocking the house! :p

This makes sense to me, so...

OK for the first....
Spoiler:
Well, on the first: All seems in order, the company has applied for an LIC and lists itself as 'A Personal Charter Service and Trading Venture'. ISS Blue Smoke is listed as 'Private Yacht of Magnus von Thornwood'. Now...
Spoiler:
As for Magnus' IN Record it seems fairly straight forward, ask the Ref for a copy of Term 4 and 5 of Magnus' CharGen...however all that it shows is Enlistment Date, Commission Date and Promotion Dates, and Skill Certifications....nothing else. Make of that what you will both you and your contact....now as for being checked up on....sometimes they tell me, sometimes they just go and ask why you might be accessing IN Records on the Back Channel and sometimes you get to just imagine what might occur. :p Now as for Captain Lady Jones...ask the Ref. Also....what Department is your IN friend in anyway...it might alter what you get back.

Cosmic, I really don't know about you kids and your new fangled Riki-Tiki-Trav (RTT), I like my Traveller all Goth. (LLBs Rule All! :p) Oh and I don't have and am not even getting RTT till I get T5 and well, then if I have some cash I will then pick up RTT just to have another system of my most beloved game. I still also have to get me some that New Era stuff too. Dukam!

Now, to seriously answer your question, as I am an old schooler the Skills were kinda broad. This means Gravitics is the skill governing the repair and maintenance Contra/Gravity Technologies. EDIT: this might also allow you to work M-Drives too....have to check or get a ruling.

Engineer meant you could do the R&M of Starships, J/M-Drives, Fuel Systems, etc. So yeah, I suppose you could use the skills you suggest.

Science (Biology) seems fine to me for using Medical Electronics, though it's not quite the same always. However, Medical-3 automatically confers the ability to use any Med-Tech that is in standard use. So yes you can use the NAS (I might have to check the Grand Survey for exactly what that can do.) and Bioscanners, possibly even NBC sensors as well.

That help? And I do love that you caught on to some of my tricks, so shhhhh, don't tell..Magician's Code. :p

Kid? Well I'll have you know that back in the day I had me a BBB from the Traveller starter edition. There are even a few of those LBBs that were collecting dust. Coming out of retirement I decided to spend my hard earned credits on MGT instead of staying a dinosaur.:D

My memory is not what it used to be, but I don't recall a Gravitics skill.

FYI: MGT. MonGT, Riki-Tiki-Trav, RTT, Mongoose Traveller or whatever it is called (must be popular to have all those names?) has the following Engineer specialties: M-Drive, J-Drive, Electronics, Life Support, Power. It's surprising that a standard small ship does not require at least 5 Engineers as a minimum.

I look back fondly on the days when an Engineer was an Engineer and a Pilot was a Pilot.

Crap, now I have to remember....

OK, point to you, only on having some LLBs. I don't doubt that RTT is popular, it's just I have other commitments to my not so huge cash stash.

As for all those engineering skills, no kidding, wow, I do miss the old days too. As for Gravitics, now I have to go and find out where I picked that up...wonder if it's all that MegaT I have, they started going all cascade on the skills list as I recall, but my memory of the skills is rusty. So, sometimes other non-Trav stuff floats to the surface and gets in the way. This could be a case of that.

And how can you not love dinos? :D They are cool. :p

Anyway, ask the Ref...it seems I want to do to much before going on this mission...so hell if I know what's going on anymore. I mean besides me ticking everyone off again...I have this talent for it, so it seems. *sigh*

OK, point to you
Lets see, how many points is that now?:smirk:

Your character can get on my characters nerves (and mine too because he is hard to understand sometimes) Overall you are doing just fine in my book. One point to you for roleplaying a character with character.

It's Classic Traveller (and later)

BOOK 5 HIGH GUARD:

"Gravitics:
The individual has skill in the use, operation, and repair of gravitic devices."

"Gravitic items are those devices which utilize the principles of antigravity, including airlraft lift modules, grav belts, grav sleds, and grav tanks. This skill is a DM required to understand, repair, assemble, or operate. Complex devices will also require a certain level of education or intelligence.

Referee: specific throws for specific situations must be generated. Obviously some throws will be harder than others, and many may be impossible without an accumulation of DMs based on expertise, education, intelligence, dexterity, and the availability of tools and parts."

Thank you Atpollard. I knew I'd seen it, just in the book I just found (BBB1-8), which is annoying since I made Mags with Traveller Book and Supp 4: CotI. But I make up for it by having Character (which is what you are in the dark. :p) So thanks Cosmic, for making my bruised ego feel a bit better.

Recruitment and Supplies. Referee Directive.

I have started to bring myself up to speed on the game (I'd started to drift, too) and I have been looking specifically at the crew requirements.

According to the spec (OOC thread p3 #24) the ship has a minimum crew requirement of 3 (Pilot, Eng, Medic) and a max of 11 (Pilot, Nav, 3Eng, Medic, 3Gunn, 2Flight.

We currently have between 8 and 10 crewmembers (depending which players are still with us and which have walked out).

As I see it, this is ample to run the ship, and Spook Control will not be happy if Mags delays lift off waiting for the perfect recruit. (I know, cos right now I'm Spook Control!) Mags can uprate his crew as characters drop out (and they may drop like flies, yet).

ATPollard has PMed me to say he's dropping out, but I intend to keep his character William Stockton as a NPC - at least in the short term.

Cosmic Gamer is in the process of rolling a new character, I believe, please advise me of this character's role and skills, as I was out of that loop.

We have not heard from Jame since he asked to join - maybe the recent debacle has caused him to reconsider, or maybe he'll sign up. If you're lurking, Jame, please let me know either way, so I can get to grips with numbers.

Erisred has not checked in with Sean, and if he doesn't, I intend to leave Sean on Feri, investing his fortune dirtside.

The current PCs have enough skills to run the ship, though not necessarily at high levels. The only skills we are really short on are gunnery, finance and elec/mech to service all those TL15 droids (and streetwise if Sean leaves). So if you're still rolling dice, Cosmic...

The above notes pretty much cover the recruitment angle, I think, and for supplies, Mags doesn't yet know anything about his passengers or mission, so he's packing for a general adventuring role.

Over to you guys...

OOC: Emergency Post.

TOTALLY OOC: I am having a major problem with my mac, as the pmu seems to have died, or went into a coma, either way, my Net access is limited at best.

Thus I am letting you all know that I am off line for the next I don't know how long. I will be working on an alternative but right now, consider that I might be off for a month or two at least as moving is coming at the end of the month and that is going to eat all the spare cash.

Sorry, to have to bow out of all the games and such but as of this moment, I have no choice.

I will try and get back online in a stable fashion soonest, but otherwise catch ya on the flipside...

Laterness,
Magnus.
