I've had an idea for a weapon that I am going to use for a non-imperium based game.
Specifically the weapon is a hybrid of gauss and laser technology. That being a guass weapon with a laser rifle/pistol that fires down the same channel.
The weapon has three firing modes. The primary one is where the laser creates a channel of superheated (and therefore less dense) air so that the guass projectile can follow the trail to the target. The second mode is where the guass projectile is fired to disrupt anti-laser materials with the laser following. The last mode is where the laser fires with the projectile in flight, resulting in a plasma like projectile.
I wasn't going to have the three modes having any different effect. Effectively these are a poor mans alternative to plasma guns.
Blaster Rifle TL14
Cost Cr8000
Weight 8kg (*)
Rof 1
Range 120m
Damage 3d12+3 (20 X2)
Size Large
Ammo 50/5Kg/Cr500
Blaster Pistol TL15
Cost Cr3000
Weight 2kg
Rof 1
Range 45m (4.5m)
Damage 2d10+3 (20 X2)
Size Small
Ammo 20/1kg/Cr400
The Blaster rifle can be fitted with an anti-grav sling. This is another Cr8000 but reduces the effective mass to around 1.5Kg instead of 13.
Support versions capable of rapid fire are known, but the extensive cooling required makes this far from sentient portable (though perhaps KKree could use these). Thus they tend to be relegated to vehicle mounted weapons.
Blasters have less difficulty firing effectivly in dense and liquid atmospheres. While good at range the slow rate of fire and bulkiness put them at a disadvantage to some smaller weapons.
Still in the tweak stage. They feel about right to me but comments are certainly welcome.
