Belated JTAS Design Contest #24 Update

My apologies

on this belated update for a question I posed earlier on the JTAS design board. My initial understanding of Onno's specifications was that the Darrian Barekdoldin-class cruiser took out a ground side facility. Then From daryen's comment and mention of 55G missiles, I got the impression that the targets were in space.

With these two impressions I had to ask Onno if the target was dirtside or in space. Here is his reply:

GURPS Traveller: behind the Claw indicates that the Darrians have attacked both Swordic Trade fleets and a planet side trade mission. The trade mission that the Darrians flattened was on Ator SM 0729.

I always read the BtC comment as taking out a ground base (or maybe orbital base) on Ator.

My comments on the 55G missles was not directly about the base, simply that the GTL13 55G missles would be at lot of fun as long as you are the one with the trigger in your hand. It would suck mightily (for a few seconds, anyway) if you are the target.

Thank-you for your reply and clarification. Speaking from the view point of a submarine sailor, being the target with any weapon is not a very good thing. During a war a submarine has no friends, everyone will try to take us out just to be safe .

Very true, however the mission details on keeping silent or not. The primary mission of a fast boat in a war zone is to the kill the enemy in whatever form. A boomer on the other hand remains quite, unless of course the crap has really hit the fan and the orders are to launch the big birds. Kind of hard to keep a low profile when the birds break the surface. Once either boat does its mission, someone is going to shoot back. That someone may be from your side.
