Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
I'm a long way from Aberdeen ... but I occasionally find myself in Montrose and I guess the occasional one-off session might be possible if that's any use to you?
Well, according to Cloud Atlas, Scotland seems really dangerous. Apparently you can cause a riot any time you want by suggesting some of the people in the same building happen to be English.
@ Ermintrude: Nearest I know of is a player in John O' Groats. How far is 'quite a long way'?
@ LeperColony: Nah, you're thinking of Ireland. I've spent quite a bit of time in Scotland and I've never had any trouble.
Of course, if you're drinking in a Glaswegian bar, all bets are off - even Glaswegians aren't safe...
I went to Scots (Sydney). I wear a Scottish tartan tie (Cunningham, from my mother's side). Pure wool, made (and purchased)in Edinburgh. I have a Watson one but haven't been able to wear it ever since a moth ate a hole in it. Guess I should buy a replacement, but I've been too niggardly.
(That alone probably makes me an honourary Scot, right there!!!)
Sorry I'm not close enough to play. (Especially as I'm gaming this weekend!! Session 3 of "Death Station", which the ref has moved to a lab above Feri and all it's political dynamite... I just can't believe I'm playing Traveller, woo-hoo!!)

I`m based in Edinburgh actually and would like to get back into Traveller after a hiatus of several years.
My most current version of the rules is T4 but I have CT,MT,NE and GURPS as well and willing to play other versions.
Ah wish Ah was in th' lain ay Scootlund,
Auld times thaur are nae forgotten.
Look awa', look awa', look awa', mah brae lad.*
Sorry, it just took over my brain for a second (my father's mother was a Forbes, and my mother's father's kin were from the Nairn district). All in all, I'm aboot 3/4 Scots if you follow back to ~1650.
I should hope so too!
I think us Scots are quite capable of writing `Homeland` songs like that without stealing "Dixie".
Seriously though the adaption had me laughing and I was wondering If anybody else has a Scottish derived song of that kind.
There is after all plenty of choice, I must admit I`ve a soft spot for "Caledonia"!
Thats the one, its become a very popular song in Scotland in recent years being covered by a fair number of performers, almost rivaling `Flower of Scotland` as an "unofficial" national anthem.
Not bad for a song that Dougie is supposed to have written in about ten minutes on a beach in France!
Ah, well, if you're going to talk about Scottish "homeland" songs then I'd have to kick in this one from one of my favourite artists of all time, Roddy Frame (if anyone out there is a Glaswegian): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AhjV5rjfL8
Note: Neil Finn is on the left; Graeme Gouldman (10CC, "I'mN ot In Love", "Dreadlock Holiday") on the right.
And don't go without watching the guitar work on "Oblivious" (which he wrote when he was 15 - some people are just too talented!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAjNEg8ctME
