Another T4 task system

Here's how I would fix T4, it's something that's so simple someone has probably thought of it before.

Use a target number of 6- as your asset base target number.

Add skill levels, add a reasonable modifier for characteristics, add an equipment modifier, add an environmental modifier - hey presto, you can keep the multi-die difficulty method, characteristics are no longer favoured over skills, and one skill level is worth a DM of 1 again.

Also, skills no longer have to be tied to a particular characteristic to generate the asset...

Admin 2 (8), pistol 1(7), grav vehicle 1(7), brawling 0(6), computer 0(6)

the numbers in () are the asset you are trying to roll equal to or less than...

It preserves the multi-die difficulty level, and characteristics are no longer more important than skill levels.

(To tie in with MT attributes could give a bonus of attribute/5 round down, or to tie in with UGM if you roll less than your attribute on your dice then the asset total is considered to be one higher.)

I'd probably fix T4 by using MT or CT+.

The assumption that broke T4 was that characteristics form the basis of tasks, which is not how CT and MT worked.

I like Sigg's system, it works well with the roll under system and his MT or UGM mods sound just right.

OTH I've always preferred MT, 2d over Nd.

About the only reason I would consider using this method is that it means you can also use Nd roll under for attribute checks as well, so there is one unified mechanic for skill checks and attribute checks.

Damage dice would still be roll high though ;)

Just had another thought.

A degree of success system for damage could easily be built into this system.

Say you need 8- to hit on 3d, but you roll 7.

7 would become the minimum amount of damage you do, so if your damage roll is less than this it is replaced with 7.
