This system does not attract a lot of attention. Due to its unstable F5 primary, all planets in this system are periodically bathed with hard radiation and particles from solar flares. This planet, in orbit 2, has no magnetic field to mitigate these effects. Early probes to the inner system were lost to what could best be described as accelerated metal fatigue.
Almost no life is present, and what exists is tenacious and deadly. Those plants and animals who could be called native have adapted splendidly to environmental conditions here. Carnivorous sand spiders ((Homarus americanus)) have developed a type of ablative armor. This flakes and peels away under hard radiation exposure, similar to effects seen in humans who have had a ‘sunburn’ occur. Also, their aggressive behavior, and coincidentally, razor sharp mandibles for biting through same armor, makes them a definite hazard to lone travelers in the deep desert. One can increase slim chances for surviving an encounter by hoping one of the attackers can be injured, then retreating while the pack consumes a wounded one. A pack of twenty sand spiders can overwhelm a lone human and consume everything but bones in minutes.
A similar armor effect can be seen in what the natives call ‘tag-along’ mice, mammalian scavengers who have developed a luxuriant hair growth with equivalent properties. These silent camp followers are always present, but very hard to see due to their excellent camouflage and ability to remain motionless for hours at a time in the open desert.

There are approximately 17,000 aboriginal humans present. Their presence is inconsistent with the low evolutionary development of native plants and animals, so they most likely are survivors from one of the multitude of lost colonies dating back to the Exodus.

With a gas giant in orbit 10, there is very little reason for sightseeing in the inner system. This lack of government oversight was of great interest to Delgado Traders LLC, and a local cell of the Yo-Kuska. In one of the rare cooperative ventures between the merchant guilds and pirates, they developed facilities that were well camouflaged and the equivalent of a class C installation.
This port construction began in approximately 2215, as the primary was entering a period of decreased activity. Without facilities or personnel trained in scientific analysis, those in charge falsely reasoned that the primary was becoming stable. When a second survey was performed on the system in 2252, there were no advanced structures remaining on the surface.

Aboriginals had discovered the facility and inhabited it, helping the few off planet survivors that remained.

At this time, advanced radiation shielding techniques exist that allow a Dominion science station to remain on the planet. Rumors persist that the planet is also being used as an exile prison for political dissidents.
