Alternative options for mustering out ship benefit?

Though 'technically', that would 'qualify' as a Class D, as a Class E generally has no fuel, nor, er, facilities... :D

That "pond" might be something other than Dihydrogen Monoxide, Ammonia, or Methane...

Mercury, for example.
Or Sulfer dioxin, if it's in the -15°C range on a particularly unpleasant world.
Or lead.

A pool of anything is a good way for a ship to shed excess heat, and almost always ensures a clear approach window.

I always read it as no prepared fuel. Any world with Hydrographics 1+ has 'facilities' for dipping, if your ship has the requisite scoops, pipes, etc..
'Ring for Steve' sounds like Class E to me.

To qualify for class D (at least IMTU) you'd need a structure of some type, with facilities to supply prepared fuel, food, medical aid, possibly accommodation, and the wherewithal to process the ship's septic tank...
'Doc Steve's gas station and diner' at the least.

:)

That was actually a joke - with 'technical' in quotes and the smilie to re-enforce the idea.

A 'pond' neither implies a hydrogen-rich fuel source nor enough 'unrefined fuel' for even a 100 ton starship - but it could still be a 'facility' (i.e. a pond to piss in...) ;)

It was also an allusion to the inherent 'freedom of interpretation' that the terse definitions in the original Classic Traveller books provided - something I actually prefer and an element that directly supports the concept of 'IMTU'.

Of course, such is a blatant abuse of the definitions as they would generally be accepted - both in-game and meta-game. In RL though, I've seen (and been to) out of the way places that advertise themselves as something they are truly not by doing just such a stretch of the meaning of a classification. Many even managing to get government and reference materials to support their scam.

Throws quite a monkey wrench in player's plans when the 'Repair Yard' turns out to be a field with a hunting shack 'staffed' by Joe, his largely incomplete toolkit, and some junk parts. And the 'unrefined fuel' turns out to come from a hose dropped into the community's waste water facility... running low, but will be 'replenished' in a week or so...
