Alien Xenomorphs for Traveller?

It's not a copyright issue at all. It is a Trademark issue.

Regardless, its an intellectual property issue. ;)

Thanks for the tip.

I'm not so sure it is that big a deal really. I'm not an IP lawyer, thankfully; but I just don't see a fan write up like that on a gaming forum violating anything, you know? If the author tried to publish it for sale I'm sure 20th Century Fox might have something to say... but writing up fewer than 2500 words about the Alien (not the current franchise version either, mind you) with some stats for a gaming system on a RPG forum seems pretty 'fair use' to me. But then, what do I know?

I tend to agree with you, but if you try, as a fan, to re-publish some 20 year old article on Aliens, you'll sure hear a lot of people scream.

There are HUGE differences in what is protected, how it's protected, and who can make use of it. And especially in what you have to do to protect it.

As long as they don't directly reference the trademark terms, and don't use movie stills nor HR Geiger's concept art, should be no problem.

Note that telepaths and other sensitive psions coming within even a lightyear of their location may start to have bad dreams well in advance of even encountering such creatures. Very useful for the whole mood setting of a bughunt piece.

I really like that last addition... Could be nice during an action too. Your rear guard will suddenly start bubbling and whimpering. Just when everyone is all concerned some biomechanical horror falls through the ceiling

There was another nasty version in one of the middle _Challenge_ issues, but I don't have my notes handy - anyone remember that one?

"To Sleep, Perchance to Scream", Challenge 54 by Charles E. Gannon?

Players investigate missing reasurch facillity staff, who have been killed by a 400kg carnivor/killer.

Regards

Ewan
