Alien books ?

whats books to look for, as far aliens go, in Megatraveller ?

Were they spread like the Traveller ones, or did they do a compiled book, with MT style creation and rules ?

DGP (the guys who basically wrote most of MT) produced two - 'Vilani & Vargr' & 'Solomani & Aslan'. Unfortunately, they are long out of print, and pretty hard to find. I got lucky with my copies - and they are very good.

and those ones are pretty expensive when you do find them. And sadly unavailable on PDF too.

Otherwise, the GURPS Alien Races books are very good for background info. Though the stats for the races and ships are all GURPS, so you'd have to do some converting to get it to work in MT. But the fluff is great.

All of the Classic Traveller alien modules are on the Far Future CT CD-ROM

Is there less conversion work with these for MT?

MT and CT stuff are typically 100% compatible requiring no conversion work. Any alien publication for either game version are be used, plug-n-play, with the other.

I second the remark about DGP's two alien works. I have both of them as well. They're easily the two single best alien modules ever published for Traveller.

(And, even though they were published for MT, you don't have to change a word to use them in a CT game--it's just a title on the cover.)

S4 is right - the original Traveller alien modules can be used as written for a MegaTraveller campaign.

The GURPS books offer chrome, but provide zero compatability with either Traveller or MegaTraveller in terms of mechanics like chargen.

IMHO, I'd say about 95% compatible.

There *are* a few instances where MT rules simply do not translate well nor easily backwards-compatible with CT. Just taking a look at my MegaTraveller 101 Vehicles sourcebook.... each vehicle is given a distinctive mass and VOLUME rating. Each one has a parameter for volume displacement, but also a separate parameter for "mass" (weight) in terms of unloaded and loaded weight. This clearly goes beyond the established vehicle design parameters of CT.

So yeah, I wouldn't exactly say that CT and MT are 100% compatible. But at 95% backwards-compatible, that's still pretty good enough.

For the most part, any "equipment" or item that was introduced for MegaTraveller can easily be borrowed and used in a CT campaign. I do it all the time.
