I've been working on a writeup of Mora, Gateway to the Marches, and I've been wondering about what adjectival form to use and what to call people from Mora.
The simplest version is 'Moran'. But that also happens to be the name of a world only a few parsecs from Mora. That still doesn't preclude the use of that form, but it did make me cast about for an alternative form. Then there is 'Morani' and 'Moranite' and 'Moranian', etc. All of which would work as good or better for Moran as for Mora.
Then I've been trying to come up with an irregular form. You know, like 'Danish' and 'Dane' for Denmark or 'Mancunian' for Manchester. 'Morish' might work, but what to use as the demonym then?
[Aside: When I worked on Sword Worlds, I used 'Grame' and 'Gramish', for Gram, which I still think are vastly better than 'Gram'. Unfortunately, Steve Jackson objected and, to my subsequent regret, I didn't fight for it. Since then I've come up with 'Sacunian' instead of 'Sacnotian' for Sacnoth. What can I say? I like a bit of variety instead of always just sticking an '-an' or an '-i' on at the end.]
Opinions? Suggestions? Should I stick to 'Moran' or should I use something else? And whatever I go with, what about Moran (the world)?
Hans
PS. Of course, you just know that if the demonym is 'Moran', some wag will substitute 'Moron'. But to my mind that's not a bug, it's a feature
