Action Points and T5

I too, just purchased a copy of "At Close Quarters". I must say, I'm pretty impressed. True enough it is an updated "Snapshot!" but it is quite an update and offers a far more complete and open-ended tactical rules-set. I hope it will be updated to sync with T5.

I hope it will be updated to sync with T5.

It seems unlikely at this stage:
1) It was written by Doug Berry who didn't like T5 when it came out.
2) It is published by BITS who, for the moment is committed to supporting MgT.
3) It is based on the concept of APs, and APs are not compatible with T5's definition of a round.

Now if Doug can be convinced to change his mind about T5 and write a non-AP version of ACQ then I think BITS would probably accept that, but for now they won't be pushing.

I love the 30 second rule and have seen it in other such tactical games; it prevents the mathematicians from boring everyone else into submission.:D

I was in a team once that played the wargame World In Flames for a few years (several games - just!). One rule we had to introduce was a time limit to people's moves so they didn't dawdle endlessly and calculate, recalculate, and undo moves all the time. We introduced the once-you've-moved-the-counters-that's-it rule, which further sped up play. Plus, all of that added a level of tension that gave the game an edge over a leisurely counter-moving exercise.

Still fiddling with the TPCS but that's what I'm leaning towards right now
