10 Questions to Ask Charles Gannon.

Hopefully, this upcoming Sunday...

1. Does he plan to write for Mongoose? If so, I would certainly like to buy his Dark Traveller (a protracted Hard Times/Long Night) milieux.

2. Tell us more about Black Imperium. How would you reconcile the Traveller Universe which seems largely robotless with a cybernized Empire.

3. Has he looked at MJD's efforts in 1248 and thought of writing the backstory for the Dominate?

4. Did he plan to write for the other lines ie Dark Conspiracy, T2000, 2300AD and what goodies did he have planned there?

5. What are the major influences (literary, game, film) for his Darker Traveller?

6. Hard Times was brilliant. Was there plans for adventures beyond the folios before TNE? Has he written any of those that he wishes to make public domain or on a paid basis once the OGL approves them.

7. Tell us more about the Hinterworlds?

8. What was his favorite Traveller moment?

Be sure also to thank him profusely for all his hard work to make Traveller a better product line by showing us the different paths that the game can take.

Flarestar, thank you so much for posting those two links.

Due to my largely self-impossed absense from these boards I could have missed these gems of Traveller as it could have been.

One question;

what would the next folio adventure have been, and how would the spinward marches have developed in this alternative New Era?

Ok that's two questions really ;)

You never know but I've not heard of him writing anything in the last 15 years. That coupled with the fact that GDW had him under contract to produce a steady stream of products, as opposed to being on staff or a freelancer, would tend to indicate not I would think.

Having met him on Sunday, Chuck was keen to discuss all aspects of Traveller and kind enough to answer some general questions.

Due to time constraints though we decided it would be easier to submit a list of questions by e-mail and to answer them when he has time.

A couple of points of interest. Chuck still has amazing enthusiasm for Traveller and still plays. He talked at length about a trilogy of books (already written) and some possible sequels as well as his ideas for supporting his "playground" and involving the fanbase. I can't really talk at length but this will include a weekly TNS style bulletin, a continuity editor to "keep the canon," a fans' area for contributions (art, fiction, planet guides, hardware guides) which may be declared as "canon". The original setting is near future (2100 or so) and sees it as a place to encourage new writers and fan work.

As to Mongoose Traveller, he was interested in both Mongoose (the company) and Mongoose Traveller though has little experience/knowledge of either. In the last 15 years he was involved in T4 on the sidelines (and missed a credit), wrote and edited for Pournelle's Warworld series, worked in TV, produced a definitive academic book on military science fiction (or the techno-military agenda in speculative fiction) and found time to teach English Litt.

But enough from me, keep posting your questions and I'll mail them out.
