Your Faraway Sector

For my own faraway sector, I essentially took the Reft sector and replaced individual worlds with my own, often randomly generated creations.

I find it a convenient halfway point where I have free reign, but there's existing sector maps that need relatively little modification.

Image files.

Where is that map to be found, may I ask? I've looked through my T5 stuff but can't find it...
Well, not sure which page exactly, I think it is in the beginning of the SysGen chapter, but found the uncensored galactic map in the image files on the T5CD. About to crash after work so that is all the detail I can muster.

Thanks - I found "T5 Galaxy Image 10c.jpg" on the CD, but I don't understand what "SRAL", "Dushis Khurisi" (on the far side of the galaxy), or "The Denizens" or "The Barren Arm" refer to... or the coloured areas (the SRAL oval, the strange similarly-coloured area in the Central Bulge), as the Legend is less than useful! Presumably the greyed area around Charted Space is the furthest extent of any kind of Major Races exploration (it shows the Zhodani core expeditions corridor).

the Dushis Khurisi as noted are a Vilani offshoot, and not sure about the rest, but I do remember when I asked Marc about it, he in his usual cryptic fashion merely noted that they were there for future stories. I am guessing that it is more likey to be associated with the Galaxiad.

Cheers, Magnus. I've just now read the Galaxiad holovid intro. Guess we'll have to wait and see! The SRAL and Essaray being so phonetically similar will have to intrigue me for a bit longer. Presumably the Vilani either got there through some wormhole type thing, or set off very early!

Anyway, my new solo-play sector is on the rimward fringe of the Orion Spur so I won't have to sorry about the Denizens, Abyssials, Core Sophonts (Wisps) etc for a while!

So is the grey "sphere" around charted space meant to be the furthest limit of human exploration? It's a lot further than 200 parsecs.

Just wondering, if you post a Faraway Sector here, do you lose copyright control of it to Far Future Enterprises? Second question is what if the Faraway Sector is in an alternate Traveller Universe?

No. But you grant a permanent royalty free license to FFE to display it on COTI. That was added to the TOS a good while ago so that we didn't have to worry about deleting posts just because someone had a snit.

IMTU I located my faraway (I named it Varan) sector in what was later named the Mikhail sector -- see Alien Module 7 -- though no other info was given. It is outside of known space, rimward and trailing from Core. I did make the Varans a major race IMTU, though that part isn't really critical to my campaign.

For now, I've suspended work on the sector while I'm recovering from a medical issue; I'm puttering around with ideas, but don't have access to most of my notes right now.

Now, say I wanted to have my version "approved" and moved back to the original location. We'll also assume the Varans become a minor race (an easy thing to do) for all intents and purposes.

Who would I speak to, and what would the process entail? Would it even be a good addition to the OTU?

This deviant mind would like to know <grin>

First step would be to get Joshua the data so he can put it up on Travellermap.

Then you can petition TPTB regarding its status. But regardless of its status, it can be on Travellermap.

Does anyone else think that the Faraway sector is a bit of a 20th century solution?

Why not block off 1000+ sectors of the orion belt and let people do what they want. Reserve a 1-4 sectors and go for it. That grows the universe. Humaniti and other races have had thousands of years to go anywhere they wanted.

And those that support the OTU ancients can add hundreds of thousands of years to that growth.

The data is on Travmap, and was originally located in the Mikhail sector. It was moved for use as a sample faraway sector, possibly because of possible conflicts with other data.

I will get back with Joshua as a starting point.

Thanks!

Have you SEEN the neighbors?

Some of my experimental ideas i would like to get in front of people, but i am not sure they are fit neighbors...

Thought the idea of a patchwork universe using a generally agreed set of methods sounds amusing...

Yeah. I know what you mean. But think of the scale when you look at the traveller map. Everyone with a T5 book could have received a 4 sector chunk of space. That being said, its the ORION BELT, make it 10 sectors. Let's say 2000 T5 backers wanted 10 sectors each for 20,000 sectors mapped.

That's a lot of sectors, but there'd be a pretty varied patchwork of how they were developed. Too, who's going to organise any interaction between the four-sector fiefdom that people would have? It'd take a HIWG-ish team to try pulling that together. I'm not bagging the idea, more thinking of how it could be made to work...

The last MTU I was working on ended up with a colonising fleet being dragged through a wormhole to the Orion arm by an unknown alien vessel fleeing a contact, which gave me the distance from the OTU but with a starting point for a settlement area orginating in the Second Imperium. Then work and kids and study got in the way :(

FOUR?!

Only four?

But I already have nine mapped out to one degree or another.

 By the Lords of Space the Riftborne Domains shall prevail! You want the other five sectors, you come and take them.

Mind you have to come up time and sorta sideways from the OTU, so good luck and I would wait for the Milleu 1900 before you come lest the Imperial Navy smoosh you. :smirk:

I haven't worked on my Traveller site for a little over a year...

But I retired, moved, got my ham radio antenna up and have talked to 6 people on high frequency, 15 meter band, since. Been sick off and on due to new trees, etc. so my allergies have kicked in a number of times. New allergies, yippee !

Of course, being out in a barely heated radio shack talking on the radio hasn't been conducive to good health.

May have time to work on my site this year.

Howdee !
