Young Yaskoydray

bookwyrm

SOC-13
Young Yaskoydray has many secrets, more secrets than a hundred Droyne five times his age. Young Yaskoydray is six years old.

One might think Young Yaskoydrays secrets to be childish in nature, but they would be wrong.

One secret kept from the Leaders and Drones is the reaching of intellectual maturity four years before the Coming of Age and Casting Ceremonies. Or the fact that their intellect is genius level, one of the 2.7% of the population.

Or the fact that they're a Natural Talent of the Aware Discipline, the most powerful psionic among the Droyne, or at least the most powerful psionic among six year old's. And when you take into consideration that all Droyne are taught psionics after their Casting, Yaskoydray has to assume that they're different from other Droyne.

With a high intellect and an intimate understanding of self through Awareness, Young Yaskoydray saw the looming Casting Ceremony as a bottleneck to their future plans and dreams. Doing research on their self and the psionic techniques used during the Casting Ceremony, Young Yaskoydray looked for a way to go beyond the choice of only one Caste. Yet another secret kept.

To facilitate their research, Young Yaskoydray has another secret, a secret lab to conduct tests and research and to store information. And also the work on a next generation of computers to aid in research, envisioning a future of mobile, self aware computers to aid in his future plans to lead the Droyne to other stars in the time it takes to travel between planets in their solar system.

Young Yaskoydray has many secrets, and is only six years old.

Note: After my initial thoughts for this story, I noticed it looked a little like Young Sheldon, so I thank the cast & crew of Young Sheldon for their inspiration. I would also like to thank Mark Miller and the many others for Traveller in general and the Ancients/Yaskoydray in particular.

Another Note: I've been considering making up a T20 Yaskoydray character, just to see what they would look like, and realized Yaskoydray must have an earlier prior history than any other Droyne, and going by what has been printed so far, I need to bend a bunch of rules to write up Yaskodray, who doesn't fit into any character creation that I know of, except maybe D&D Immortals or Traveller Hero's, and maybe not even then. And then there's the fact that T20 has a 20 level limit and Yaskoydray supposedly lived for 320+ millennia. I'm getting cold feet before I even get started!

Makes me wonder what caste he was raised in? I would assume a Leader, but it would be an interesting though experiment to think up a story where he is a highly gifted Sport, Drone, Technician or even Warrior (all those asteroid belts...)

In some versions of canon Grandfather invented the casting ritual, The ancient era chirpers possibly didn't become the droyne race until grandfather introduced casting, The other take is that the ancient chirpers had rituals to determine cast but had a different number of castes and subcastes.

I did consider this, and decided that the story of Yaskoydray awakening four castes in himself required the casting ceremony to already exist.

It's also possible that he was a genius among Chirpers while also being a powerful psionic, and rewrote his genetics with psionics, thus becoming the first Droyne.

I'm thinking of another chapter, and my thoughts are that the casting ceremony not only affects a Droyne mentally, but also physically. Since Yaskoydray casted as a Leader/Sport/Technician/Drone, there would have been physical traits of all four castes. In a society where each Droyne fits in, or is fitted in, there would be confusion of just where s/he would fit in. Awakening four castes and being psionically powerful, s/he'd consider their self overqualified, maybe.

One weird thing that occurred to me is that Yaskoydray would be half Alpha Male, Quarter Beta Male, and Quarter Female. Another thought is that although the story of Yaskoydray awakening four castes has been around for 300k+ years, why are there no stories/legends/myths of other Droyne awakening 2+ castes?

One weird thought I had about his "adoption" of Humaniti and creation of Vargr (non-canon, of course) was that he wanted sophonts that (unlike Chirpers/Droyne) were not capable of spawning a 1-in-a-trillion-or-whatever Ubersophont that might become a competitor. After all, it happened for him, once.

Perhaps casting was his control mechanism for the chirpers, genetically hardcode them to only have one set of powers?

I want this TV series to be done. The early humans and Vargr part just as good as young grandfather.

Then the blockbuster special effects movie that covers the Final War.

The CT Alien Module does at least speculate (if it does not explicitly state) that the castes existed in Droyne prehistory (i.e. pre-Yaskoydray) but also that they were not necessarily the same castes that exist now, as some castes and sub-castes may have gone extinct since or come into being as technological changes altered the needs of the species.

Grandfather invented the casting ritual that modern droyne use, the debate is if the ancients were droyne with a similar ritual, chirpers, or something in between, chirpers with their own casting ritual.

It is my own take on it that grandfather augmented the chirper/protodroyne with the physical changes that take place during the ritual, and enhance or bring to the fore their psionic ability...
