Worlds named <something>-world

rancke

Absent Friend
Can anyone remeber any canonical worlds in Charted Space (especially in or near the Imperium) with names that end in '-world'?

EDIT: Found one: Dawnworld (SM 1531).

Note that Beck's World didn't show in that list... but it's in there...

Beck's World
Spinward Marches 2204
D88349D-4

I could swear I didn't see it when I tried just 'world' the first time... but it showed each time thereafter (with '*world' and just plain 'world') including after clearing cache and cookies - so maybe I was just biased by aramis' post. I copy pasted it into text editor (Mac) - so maybe the selection failed for that one for some reason... but I wasn't able to reproduce it.

P.S. - presume you are using MS SQL - do you have a SOUNDEX() (and DIFFERENCE()) search option?

This list is longer (1 entry, I think), in a different order, and has different entries (ex: Melroh's World is missing).

After that I got the same list as above each time (3x - raw side by side)... this was on Mac 10.6 & FF 5.

I'll try on a PC later... but, this is tickling some feeble synapses from several years back having to do with ASP.NET and MS SQL (multiple CPUs involved in query?).

Thanks, this should be resolved now.

* I was limiting the number of results returned (to 20) but the search wasn't ordered, so if there were more than 20 then some random set of results would simply be dropped. This would stabilize over time as the database cached the query results internally. Now I return 40 results and they're sorted by name. Ideally they'd be sorted by relevance and have a "more..." link a the bottom, but that will have to wait.

* I've added an experimental "like:" prefix for searches. Try "like:terra" as a search. Thanks for the tip, BytePro! It's a bit noisy so it needs more work.

Excellent - and thanks for an awesome site!

Yeah, SOUNDEX benefits from tweaking and extra handling - it does come with some strange results (and wildcards can really throw it).

Soundex is freaking awesome when implemented correctly.

Tash, thanks for getting on those bugs. Two more things... could you add a NDS size to the mobile page - about 200x170 would be perfect for viewing in the on-board web browser of the DSi and DSxl - and have names available on one step fewer pixels a parsec than current?
