Where's Avery?

Sometimes, I feel that we ought to make the next Traveller product akin to "Where's Waldo?". It would have the hundreds of gaming titles and email posts and one would have to find MWM or LKW in the picture. Sure it is easy to get a hold of Hunter (when he feels fine) or MJD are building a really solid gaming company but where is anyone else?

It seems that Marc has gone quiet on us again. After a flurry of activity on the Ask Avery site, it has now gone as dead as the reprint schedule on the FFE site.

You kinda feel all efforts are directed toward 2004 release dates for many Traveller items. (I guess this year was a bad year for gaming) but guys look at T20 as a model there is always discussion.

What is the latest that anyone has heard anything from the Ancients regarding new releases? Usually, it is a standard disclaimer we are working on a variety of things. My fear is that it will look something like T4, jazzy on the outside and illus. but lacking everything in terms of advancing our Traveller story forward.

Just letting off some steam that I think are all beginning to feel about the whole T5 and reprint thing...

T5 isn't going fast enough for me, either. At least he's trying to do it right. I shudder to think of it becoming a T4, a near miss, an almost-was. When I think of the potential T4 had, I realize it was theirs to lose. Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

ATM I really don't care a LOT about T5. I do think it's good that he wants to do it right, though after having read through the beta stuff I've seen (finally), and having evolved myself over the last 10-12 years (God, has it been that long?) since I found MT (or it found me), well, after seeing TNE, how could anyone want for more?

Okay, so I still want for more, but I think it was a step in the right direction, and I cringe when I see stuff that applies to CT/HG and know that the same stuff wouldn't work in TNE (like, well, just about any space tactic, really), and I also cringe when I see stuff for TNE and realize it's way too complicated for the majority of players. It's like they tried to integrate Command Decision and Harpoon with Traveller. (Excellent games, of course, but way more than most people want in a lifetime.)

I like the route the Aurora RPG went; simplifying a lot of stuff to its most basic levels and taking a lot of innocuous rolling out of the game, but I find myself not using even those rules as intended. And, of course, I STILL yearn for a complete FFS3. So I guess I'm a weird jumble of chaos who doesn't know what he wants, but knows that nothing out there looks right.
