Where is everyone?

Columbus/Central ohio

Anyone aware of any Traveller d20 (or old school Traveller, or any Traveller at all)groups in Central Ohio-ish?

I'm still recovering from Nuke-Con & having to go back to the real world where my co-workers think RPG gaming is weird & subversive. Plus gathering all the notebooks & post-it notes on my next update I've discovered contradictions. Now I have to decide what versions to use.

In all honesty I'd have to say that RPG gaming is subversive in a sense. It teaches and makes people think for themselves, and, let's face it, neither the governments or corporations want people to be willing or able to think for themselves.

Why do you think the mainstream media portrays intelligent people as dorks, nerds, geeks, spazzes, etc?

Was that the Holy Handgrenade of Antioch?

If so you must first count to three, Do not count too two lest though then proceedeth to three, counteth not to four, but too three.......

Well, obviously RPGs don't teach everyone involved with them to think effectively. Some people just develop the reflex of tossing out monty python reffs.

In all seriousness, I'm thinking of a SF setting where a character is in fact arrested and imprisoned without trial for making RPGs, because the government really doesn't want any hobbies or habits encouraged that promote actual thought instead of mindless compliance, indulgence, etc. Like modern american media does.

The idea of a state that subtley, or perhaps not all that subtley, discourages intelligence and complex thought, and uses mindrotting "entertainment" (Reality shows, professional wrestling, etc) to pacify the intellect while portraying people involved in intellectual activities as undesirable in various ways is a kind of subtle horror story, not to mention good social commentary on the current world as well.

Gamers would likely be persecuted to various degrees in such a world, much as "intellectuals" have been decried and targeted in various oppressive regimes.

This could be an interesting game world.

I wouldn't call it a reflex, I just get bored sitting here listening to the little machine that goes "ping".
