What's the status on T5?

Don tries to update as often as he can, but yeah I'd like to see something new in errata or just news updates.

Well, my only observation is that this section of the BBS used to be flooded with posts (I guess a lot of people griping or otherwise venting), and now it's like hardly anyone posts in the T5 section.

I wasn't sure if it had been pulled, or if there was a special developers' forum, or people had lost interest. Regardless, T5 seemed to drop off the face of the Earth.

Many seem to be waiting for T5.1

Was that officially announced?

Sorry, I just haven't been keeping up with T5.

No, I don't think it was. That Marc is revising further is no surprise.

There is a revised version in the works. That's been public. That it's "T5.1" isn't anywhere from Marc; it's Cryton's and My reference to the revision in process.

It won't be announced formally until Marc has a draft he can live with.

Marc has promised a "player's book" version. The core revision is predicate to that.

That's a pretty good assessment. Amongst the people I deal with, there are still people willing to give T5.something a shot, but are not going to put money down until something is the updated version (kind of a an act of good faith telling us that this isn't an aborted product/product-line). I've tried to not toe the line of going back to the complaining days that I thankfully missed, but simply adding my Eye-ore like mantra of, "the longer this takes, the more people are going to give up on it."

Agreed.

Some sort of semi-regular update would be helpful.

"Helpful" bordering on "necessary", given all that has gone before. I've pretty much given up on T5, but keep watching since I sank so much money into it on unfulfilled faith and would still like to see it reach its potential.

I'm not knocking anyone. We'll see what we see when we see it. At least the silence isn't total.

I sank a lot of excitement and hope into it, I can still spare some. An update on the errata outside of the special committees would rock.

Pats on the back to all who are toiling on this beast, I for one appreciate your efforts.

I'm kind of neutral on it. I don't have a gaming group anymore, but still consider Traveller a hobby. Way back in 2005 to 2008 I was really looking forward to it because I thought I could write for it, and I figured I'd be a "free man" by now with a NEW gaming group.

Such has not been the case. And given the more intrinsic value of the OTU, and how it seems to be more tightly woven into the rules, I'm looking forward to it with interest.

I still can't believe I had to reference Hemdian's video on how to generate a character. That did throw me some when I tried to generate a character with the T5 rule set.

Now, having said all that, the one thing I would like to see with a new CD issue of the rules, are hot links to chapters and in the indexes and appendixes. Having to hunt around the CD for the right PDF file to open was my only real gripe with the presentation.

If I have the money, I'll go ahead and splurge on a dead tree version of 5.1

I wouldnt spend any of my money on any version of Traveller 5. I see it as a dead duck, completely pointless and just a money making scheme based on faith and nostalgia. We need Mongoose Traveller to continue to release better quality products that is all. There is absolutely no need for another version of Traveller and there never has been any need for one.

I really hope you are wrong, I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. I have been (mostly) quietly watching with anticipation. I think I am going to wait for the next revision and see where that gets us.

Well, I disagree at any rate. I'm really tired of waiting for Marc but I think a fully realized T5 will be the best thing ever. Whereas Mongoose has produced my singularly least favorite version of Traveller. Stat bonuses? Padding packages so you'll get the skills you'll need? Ugly stylistic, dare I say Warhammerish art? Good grief who needs it? I will give them props for deck plans in the core. High time for that at least.

Please, guys, don't devolve this thread into trashing different versions of Traveller. Bottom line: If MgT works for you then go with it, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Remember YMMV.
